September 2017 Nebo PEAK Award Winners

Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Allie Lowe, Foods, Park Elementary
Nominated by: All your friends at Park
“Allie shows up EVERY SINGLE DAY with a smile on her face. She rides her bike to work each day regardless of the weather. She helps students dump trays so there is not a mess at the garbage cans. She will also come in early on days that we receive a warehouse order and put all of the paper in the cupboards for us. Allie has been at Park Elementary for 10 years! She absolutely loves her birthday and each grade takes their turn singing to her in the lunch room on her special day. We appreciate all of the work that Allie does for our school every day. Even though Allie tells us she is going to retire when she turns 40 (7 years to go), we can't imagine Park without Allie. Thank you Allie, for being the kind of person that reminds each of us to be better each day!”

Katelyn Finch, Teacher, Cherry Creek Elementary
Nominated by: Sarah Sumsion & Chalyce Peck
“Katelyn is amazing with her students and their parents/guardians. She is very patient and helps everyone feel at peace with the services that are being offered. She has exceptional lessons that help students improve a lot. She helped one student raise his SAGE writing score by 139 points!! Katelyn works diligently with teachers on student IEPs. She works with the Dance Festival and other events for our Events Action Team. She is always positive and willing to go the extra mile to make it above and beyond awesome.”

“I am impressed with Katelyn. She has a heavy load as a resource teacher. Katelyn consistently communicates with me on how we can both meet my five self-contained students’ needs and be a team to help them academically and socially. She is happy to accommodate or try different and new approaches so our students succeed. Katelyn has been wonderful to work with and is a huge asset to our special education program at our school. She is kind and friendly to everyone. She has welcomed new students to her class with a loving attitude and is always positive.”

Russ Wilkes, Bus Driver, Transportation
Nominated by: Carl Swenson & Blythe Family
“Each day Russ goes well above his job duties to help a special needs student ride the bus. Many times this student will not get on the bus, he even runs from the bus or just sits down and will not get up. Russ has chased him, helped lift him, and encouraged him. Many times Russ is the only one he will respond to. Russ is always positive and makes a big difference in the lives of students.”

Sherri Peterson, Facilitator, Spanish Oaks Elementary
Nominated by: Kali Brown
“Without Sherri, our school would flounder. Her official ‘title’ is that of facilitator. ‘The facilitator's job is to support EVERYONE to do their best thinking and practice... to encourage full participation, promote mutual understanding and cultivate shared responsibility.’ Notice the verb(s): help, support, encourage, cultivate, share, etc. Sherri is the ‘action word’ behind everything we accomplish at Spanish Oaks. She gives of her time, talents, and resources freely, and we are all better for having known her.”

Nikki Thomas, Secretary, Rees Elementary
Nominated by: Adam Gull
“Nikki is everything you want in a secretary. She is kind, happy, professional, organized and she just gets it done! She is always so positive and happy with everyone that enters the office at Rees. She is quick to respond to the needs of parents, students, teachers and staff members. She has an incredible laugh that fills the room and just makes you feel good when you talk with her. Nikki brightens the school with her presence. Many people come to her, and she is right there to lift them up or keep them smiling. Nikki sets a professional, positive tone and is efficient in her duties. Nikki will take care of you when you visit Rees Elementary.”

Karen Burton, Teacher, Art City Elementary
Nominated by: Lisa Muirbrook
“Karen absolutely loves her job. She is very experienced and knowledgeable about special education students and student development. She is willing to share her knowledge and expertise with all faculty members at any time. She has volunteered her time in other classrooms offering intervention ideas and techniques to teachers. She not only cares about her students but each student and staff member at Art City. Karen truly exemplifies positive energy and kindness.”

This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools. The name and contact information of the nominator must be included.
