Salem Hills High School’s newest mathematics teacher, Charlotte Whiteside, is selected as one of Vernier Science Education’s 10 inspiring STEM educators. She is part of the inaugural cohort of Vernier Trendsetters, a nation-wide, collaborative group looking to incorporate hands-on learning for the next-generation of innovators and problem solvers.

Charlotte has been teaching for 10 years and worked in the Nebo school district for the last 4. At Spanish Fork Junior High, she taught 8th grade math and was always looking for ways to help her students connect with her content area. She was the advisor for the math club, coached the math team, and created and coordinated events like “30 days of STEM” and STEM evening event featuring UVU’s Chemistry Magic Show, BYU Math Education Department, and the ALC First Robotics Team and Flight Simulator.

At Salem Hills High School, Ms. Whiteside is excited to continue working towards creating meaningful STEM opportunities for students. As part of Utah’s STEM Action Center Secondary Educator Innovator’s cohort, she is exploring how to incorporate 3-D printing and math labs in her secondary classes. After School on Wednesdays, you can find her hosting a Quantum Physics club.
