Mapleton Elementary Intrigued the Nebo School Board of Education

Principal Cami Thomas presented to the Nebo School Board of Education and told the Board what they had been working on. This year the focus at Mapleton Elementary is to improve student learning and social awareness as well as build teacher efficacy and capacity. Hopefully by improving in these areas it will improve student academic achievement.

Principal Thomas then introduced Ellie Erekson, a student with the Mighty Mountaineers student council, to share some of the great things happening.

Fifth-grader, Ellie, said the students like to fill a need by making and donating blankets to Primary Childrens Hospital. Ellie also mentioned the schools’ Kindness Initiative. On television screens throughout the school, they post all the kind actions and thoughts delivered by students. By promoting kindness and the Mighty Mountaineers recognition of these kindness deeds, Mapleton Elementary is a more positive place.

The remaining time of the school presentation was presented by Rachel Ivins. Mrs. Ivins introduced many of her Math Enrichment students who challenged the Board Members and Superintendent Staff to use math facts to break the code of escape rooms created by the students. This was an intriguing activity that became a bit competitive. It was a delightful evening full of fun competition.
