Nebo School District honors classified employees across the district. Thank you to all those that submitted, over 500, employees this year.

2020 District Employee of the Year – Jan Gordon

Jan Gordon – Foothills Elementary
Special Education Services – Employee of the Year

“Jan is a tremendous asset to Foothill’s students, parents, faculty, and staff. She works as our resource technician but has the skills of a certified teacher. Over the 25 years in the Nebo School District, Jan has touched the lives of so many students and families in the Salem area. Jan is kind, caring, generous, hardworking, and always wears a smile. She always puts the needs of others ahead of her own. Jan is involved in many community efforts, one of which was a highly successful food drive in November that she coordinated with Salem schools, Tabitha’s Way, and local churches. Foothills has been extremely blessed to have Jan at our school for the last 14 years; and she will leave a hole in our hearts and big shoes to fill when she retires. We love, admire, and are proud to honor Jan as the Nebo School District’s Employee of the Year.”

Kathryn Anderton – Art City Elementary
Educational Technician – Employee of the Year

“Kathy is always willing to help anyone to do anything. She will be walking down the hall and go out of her way to say, ‘Hi,’ and sincerely mean it when she asks, ‘Is there anything I can do for you?’ Kathy would take off her own coat and give it to you if she thought you needed it. Kathy also works hard to remember all of the students’ names and will always ask how a student is doing. No matter what problems may arise, she always puts her best foot forward with the students and makes them feel loved. (She does this with her co-workers too!) Kathy is a caring, fun, positive, polite, and pleasant person to be around. She has a contagious smile and quietly goes about doing nice things for the whole school. Kathy is a Nebo Hero, and we love her at Art City Elementary School.”

Lynette McMullin – Sage Creek Elementary
Secretary – Employee of the Year

“Most of our school secretaries are phenomenal, that's one reason that makes Nebo so warm and welcoming. There are secretaries that are especially gifted at being the perfect combination of cheerful, kind, knowledgeable, efficient, and discreet. Lynette is absolutely the heart of our school and epitomizes that perfect combination. Lynette is a pleasure to watch in action. Whether students are throwing up or throwing a tantrum, Lynette is helpful and assuring. She is constantly helping both students and staff and never talks in a negative way. Lynette has a loving demeanor, and all can feel this when they enter the front office.”

Sherry McMullin – Spanish Fork Junior High
Child Nutrition – Employee of the Year

“Sherry makes lunch time a positive, efficient experience for all the students she interacts with! She kindly remind students that they have one lunch left on their account without making them feel guilty or embarrassed about it. Sherry remembers students’ faces and names and makes them feel noticed and important even in the lunch line! She trains other nutrition workers with expertise and kindness. Sherry knows how to make a stressful time for many students (and even teachers) a positive one! We can count on her to brighten our day.”

Jake Olson – Springville Area
Technical Services – Employee of the Year

“Jake always goes above and beyond to support our needs at the Summit Center, which are many due to the nature of our many presenters at the numerous conferences the Summit Center hosts. Jake goes above and beyond to help teachers with their technical difficulties and never ‘passes the buck’ to someone else. He follows through to make sure all employees' needs are addressed. He comes in early and does all of this with a great attitude and genuine dedication. Jake is an outstanding Nebo Hero because he is efficient, helpful, fun, positive, responsive, and incredibly competent in his field of technology.”

Benton Locke – Springville Junior
Custodian – Employee of the Year

“Benton Locke is so kind and willing to assist teachers with all sorts of classroom issues. He makes the time to go above and beyond for all of us when we need him. Benton is efficient and quick to solve a problem when one arises. He is friendly and has a great sense of humor. Benton is respectful, kind, considerate, and a great all-around good man. We are so appreciative of all the hard work he does and are grateful that Benton works at Springville Junior High!”

Heather Ash
Transportation – Employee of the Year

“When Heather walks into the room, we feel the wonderful vibes of positivity, joy, and a ray-of-light. Heather has a great way of seeing opportunities in any situation. She sets a high bar of complimenting anyone and everyone she meets. Having Heather in our transportation department is the best thing since school buses were painted yellow.”

Ross Beck
Warehouse – Employee of the Year

“Ross is one of those silent Nebo Heroes; quiet but always there taking care of anything and everything. Ross does this all with a positive attitude. It seems like every time we check on something, Ross has either been there already or he is there doing it now. Ross has friends everywhere he goes. We are grateful to work with Ross Beck.”
