Nebo Education Foundation delivers Valentines in the form of grants in February 2020. The Nebo Education Foundation meets each month at 7:00 a.m. to discuss submitted educational grant proposals for students in Nebo School District. One of the goals of the foundation is to fund worthwhile projects in the district that provide resources to enrich student learning.

The Nebo Education Foundation could use more money to fund these worthwhile learning grants. Anyone interested in donating to Nebo District schools, classes or programs can do so through the Nebo Education Foundation which is a 501 (c) (3) organization created to bring businesses and donors together for the benefit of Nebo District school children.  Your contribution is a tax-deductible charitable gift as provided by law. Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to inspire the minds of students.

Westside Elementary – Sarah Ward
Sarah Ward, instructional coach at Westside Elementary, said, “Westside Elementary is thrilled and grateful to be awarded a Nebo Foundation Grant to purchase books for our take-home library.  Our students will be excited to read new titles.  It is a great resource to promote student growth in reading skills.  Additionally, our parents will enjoy having a book on their students' reading level to read with their child each night.  Reading books at home will benefit our students in their fluency, accuracy, comprehension, and increase their motivation for reading!”

Salem Hills Junior – Caroline Hansen
Caroline Hansen, English teacher at Salem Junior, said, “We are so excited to be able to purchase class sets of Romeo and Juliet in graphic novel form! As a 9th grade English team, we've been trying to find innovative and engaging ways to teach the famous play so that our students understand the language of Shakespeare. Now with the graphic novel version of the play, we're hopeful that students will interact with the play, its characters, and the language in a whole new way. Our goal is to help students enjoy reading and become critical thinkers. Thanks to the Nebo Education Foundation for this grant that will help us reach that goal!”

Diamond Fork Junior – Susan E. Anderson
“I'm so grateful for the Nebo Education Foundation to support our school and programs. Last year, they generously gave us a grant to purchase a classroom set of Orbiting Jupiter by Gary Schmidt. This is a beautiful book of redemption and what it means to be a real family. Our students loved it, and we wanted to extend this reading experience to more classes. Nebo Education Foundation gave us more funds to get this book into the hands of more students. We are looking forward to teaching this novel with such important, impactful dialogue,” stated Susan E. Anderson, English teacher at Diamond Fork Junior.

Maple Ridge Elementary – Lindsey Smith
“We are thrilled to receive this grant from the Nebo Foundation! It is so important for students to be immersed in non-fiction text, and as teachers we are always looking for excellent resources to teach with; this grant will give us so much to work with. We're excited to be able to connect our students with engaging non-fiction books that will interest them and encourage their love of reading,” stated Lindsey Smith, instructional coach at Maple Ridge Elementary.

East Meadows Elementary – Nicole Steiner
Nicole Steiner, fifth-grade teacher at East Meadows Elementary, said, “I am thrilled to be the recipient of The Nebo Education Foundation grant. As an avid lover of books and reading, I have made it my personal mission to provide students with the best and most engaging books. In applying for this grant, I researched many new book titles that have been recently published. I read as many as I could get my hands on and then chose several that I wanted to share with my students. Thanks to Mr. Mike Duncan and The Nebo Foundation, these funds will provide twenty different sets of guided reading books for our upper grade students. I can't wait to share this treasure trove of titles with the other teachers and students here at East Meadows Elementary. I truly believe that a book is a gift you can open again and again. Thank you so very much for this priceless gift!”

Salem Junior – Scott Shaffer
“We are so grateful that Nebo Education Foundation has provided a grant to help purchase a classroom set of iPads to Salem Junior High School. These iPads will be used predominantly in the visual art department. At Salem Junior, we understand visual communication is becoming more and more of a digital field. Contemporary artists paint, sketch, document, and post their artistic progress using digital devices like iPads. This grant allows us to give the students real-world practice, helping prepare them for high school, secondary education, and future professions. Using Canvas Classroom in conjunction with the iPads, students, parents, teachers, and administration can watch the students progress from the early mental concepts to full-fledged professional pieces. Thank you, Nebo Education Foundation, for your support and belief in our students at Salem Junior High School,” stated Scott Shaffer, art teacher at Salem Junior.

Spanish Fork High – Scott Moody
Scott Moody, visual art teacher at Spanish Fork High, said, “With this grant we will be able to purchase a portable printing press that will give us the ability to offer a printmaking class as well as make more types of printmaking techniques that use the press available to our students to explore.  We have done some printmaking in the past, but the press will help to get more consistent results for the students' work.  This is the third grant I have received from the Nebo Foundation and am grateful for the commitment they have shown to me and my students to help get us the equipment and resources we need to have success in the classroom.”
