THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Beth Nelson, Counseling Registrar, Salem Hills High
Nominated by: Rachel White & Lindsey Freestone

“Beth has been with SHHS since it opened in 2008. Her knowledge of the history of SHHS is valuable. Her skills on ICampus and knowledge with the registration process is hard to duplicate. Beth was instrumental in making our graduation successful. She is very detail oriented and makes sure everything she does looks impeccable. Her real value is in the way she treats our students and parents. She is always kind and patient. She is willing to go the extra mile to make sure they are taken care of. We don’t know what we would do without Beth!” ~Rachel White

“Beth goes above and beyond to help our school. She has worked at the school since it opened and does so much behind the scenes. She is kind to all and is excellent at her job. She is very organized, positive, and generous!”  ~Lindsey Freestone

Austin Johnson, School Resource Officer, Spring Canyon Middle/Springville Jr.
Nominated by: Alison Hansen, Travis Moss, Brittany Lundell, Tiffanie Miley, Shauna Shepherd, Russ Sumens

“Austin is an absolute delight to work with! He is knowledgeable, efficient, helpful, kind, and fun - a wonderful combination. He is extremely responsive - whether he is helping a specific situation where a police presence is needed or simply being at school, present and visible, he always leaves a situation better. Students love to visit with him in the halls, and seek him out to talk with him. One of our students with special needs is especially taken with Austin and follows him around everywhere. Austin even came in on his day off on Veteran's Day to block off our pick-up/drop-off lane for a special flag-raising ceremony where the entire student body and staff gathered outside at the beginning of the school day. While we needed his police lights that morning at the drop-off lane, it was his presence that was particularly noteworthy and appreciated for such a large gathering. Many parents commented on him being there. It created a sense of peace and order. Austin is a true partner and serves the students and staff of the Spring Canyon and Springville Junior communities with enthusiasm and pride. He is a Nebo Hero.” ~Alison Hansen, Travis Moss, Brittany Lundell

“Detective Austin Johnson is such an amazing addition to the Springville Junior High School team. He is here whenever we need him! Austin is funny, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and proactive. He interacts well with our students, and our faculty and staff love having him around. Austin is a positive bridge between the school and the community and our families. We are grateful for the chance we have to work with him!” ~Tiffanie Miley, Shauna Shepherd, Russ Sumens

Kara Mackay, Teacher, Larsen Elementary
Nominated by: Rebecca Marshall & Janna Voss

“Kara is simply amazing. I work with her students on a daily basis and see how much good she does. She deals with very demanding personalities and extreme behaviors from students but handles each of them in the most loving way. The students are free to express their thoughts and ideas because of the loving environment she has created. She is very knowledgeable as a professional but is always open to new ideas and willing to collaborate with colleagues. Kara embodies love and compassion in all that she teaches. She buoys up the students and staff around her by her quiet, yet constant example of goodness and strength. Her passion for what she does is contagious and being around her makes me want to be a better employee and person in general.” ~Rebecca Marshall

“Kara Mackay is an exceptional teacher of the students in the ACC/EEC unit at Larsen Elementary. She is the embodiment of patience, kindness, and positivity. She is always looking for ways to assist the children in learning. As a Speech/Language Pathologist working with her students, she is a ‘dream teacher’ to work with. When I suggest various language programs, she immediately accepts them and incorporates them into her teaching. Because of this, her students are learning to express themselves with more detail in their language and in their writing. She incorporates the Speech/Language employees into her classroom with ease and with eagerness to learn how to assist her students' language skills.” ~Janna Voss

Heather Balli, Principal, Meadow Brook Elementary
Nominated by: April Rockwood

“Ms. Balli goes above and beyond to help students at her school, both by focusing on the collective efficacy of her faculty that help reach all students, and one-on-one with students. My daughter struggled with anxiety and going to school, and Ms. Balli helped us connect with the school counselor and invited my daughter to come into her office in the mornings to golf to help ease her anxiety. She is the best!”

Tiffanie Sorensen, Para Educator, Santaquin Elementary
Nominated by: Amber North

“Tiffanie takes each challenge she is given and makes it look easy. Tiffanie always has the students in mind in everything that she does. Tiffanie has great ideas and knows how to help differentiate to each student's need. She truly makes learning come to life! Tiffanie has a talent of looking at the bigger picture and is able to break it down. The students love and feel safe around her. Tiffanie is a team player and is ready to support the staff if needed even if that includes getting rid of a mouse. Tiffanie is not afraid to get her hands dirty. She is always present even when life throws her curve balls. She always goes above and beyond.”

Denise Butler, Special Ed. Tech., Landmark High
Nominated by: Kelly Taylor, Lynn Mecham, Tiffney Loveless

“Denise worked as our lunch lady for many years and made the lunchroom a place students liked to be. Her extra attention and concern for students was noticed and appreciated by students. Denise transitioned to a Cornerstone and now special education technician. She helps out wherever is needed and helps make math more accessible for students who struggle. Whether they have questions on their assignments or just need a cheerleader, Denise is able to help support student success at Landmark. We appreciate her efforts and the positive influence she has in the lives of our students.”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, www.nebo.edu/PEAK wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools.
