The Nebo Education Foundation gives gifts in the form of grants to various Nebo teachers across the district.

President Brian Rowley said, “We feel very fortunate to be able to see the full cycle of how the Nebo Education Foundation is involved in helping the kids of Nebo School District. After we receive funds from the community, we review grant proposals from dedicated teachers who have specific classroom needs, then we are able to award a grant to that teacher who uses those resources to enrich the educational experience for our kids.”

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to bless the lives of students.

Salem Hills High – Ryan Adair
Ryan Adair, band teacher at Salem Hills High, said, “The Salem Hills High School Band is beyond grateful to the Nebo Education Foundation for providing us with this grant! We will be using these funds to replace our Marching Tubas, which have needed replacement for over 5 years. As our band program is starting to see exponential growth, the need for new instruments will also growl. These funds are exactly what our program needs to keep up with the growing interest in our program. We look forward to giving back to our community through music in our parades and live music events year-round with these new instruments.”

Larsen Elementary – Maren Arrington
“As a first year teacher I am so grateful to be a recipient of a grant from the Nebo Education Foundation. This grant along with matched funds from my school will be used to build a diverse classroom library and allow students to develop a love of literacy in my Optional Enhanced Kindergarten class,” stated Maren Arrington, kindergarten teacher at Larsen Elementary. “I believe that books are such a powerful way to enrich our lives and I know that this collection will calm fears, broaden understanding, excite, and spark the curiosity of these lucky students at Larsen! Thank you!”

Spanish Fork Junior – Jonathan Lawrence
“The Nebo Foundation was generous in again awarding my grant proposal. The funds will be used to purchase novels and non-fiction for my classroom lending library. These books are readily accessible to my students and help me provide targeted texts at the students' individual needs. Lately, I am trying to increase the Lexile Level of my classroom library, so these funds will be used to purchase books that are not as easy to find for many students. I am so grateful to the Nebo Foundation as it supports teachers as we support our students. By my reckoning, this is the 6th or 7th grant funded by the Nebo Foundation!” exclaimed Jonathan Lawrence, English teacher at Spanish Fork Junior.

Valley View Middle – Daniel Stolworthy
Daniel Stolworthy, band teacher at Valley View Middle said, “Students will have the opportunity to learn mallet instrument playing technique on the mallet instrument instead of a small keyboard banner laid out on the floor. There are currently more students than available instruments to play, which makes students have to wait their turn to play on the instrument. With the funds from the Nebo Education Foundation we will be able to purchase two more new marimbas which will allow for 6 more students to have an instrument to play during class. The current marimbas at Valley View Middle School are also too tall for 6th and 7th graders to use so the new height adjustable marimbas to be purchased with the funds from the Nebo Education Foundation will help the students use correct technique when learning to play a mallet instrument.”

Maple Ridge – Jentri Duvall
Jentri Duvall, fifth-grade teacher at Maple Ridge said, “Thank you!! This grant means a lot to me because it is the first one I have ever applied for, and I am excited for what it will do for my classroom. I think the boogie boards are going to be a great asset in my classroom to improve student learning without having to stop and get new markers or erasers for the whiteboards my students have now. Thank you so much for taking the time to look over my application and accepting it!”

Brockbank Elementary – Emily Swyers
“This grant is such an awesome opportunity for the second grade students here at Brockbank Elementary. This year, all four of the classes have transitioned to using digital centers each day. We were so excited to receive a one to one ratio of Chromebooks for our students this year. Because we are incorporating technology into our classroom even more this year, we were in need of headphones for our students to use. This grant is helping to supply each second grade student at our school with a pair of quality headphones to use as they work on their Chromebooks each day in class.” stated Emily Swyers, second-grade teacher at Brockbank Elementary.

The  Nebo Education Foundation is composed of approximately 20 volunteer board members who live in cities serviced by Nebo School District.  Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students.  Many of the donations received are for selected projects, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need. Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools.
