Nebo School District’s fourth-grade performed alongside the Utah Symphony at the annual concert event. Every fourth-grader, over 2,600 students and their teachers, had the chance to attend this premier orchestral performance at Salem Hills High School.

The students were deeply involved and well-behaved,” said Julie Christofferson, Nebo District’s art specialist. “We are grateful to the many involved to pull of this magnificent production including our transportation and nutrition departments; Salem Hills High student government, the stage crew, drama department, custodial staff, and administration. They all did a terrific job of welcoming the Utah Symphony and the fourth-grade students.”

The Utah Symphony, under the direction of Connor Covington, provided a beautiful, fun, and educational concert that aligned with the Utah State Core Music Standards.  Teachers were provided with educational materials to help prepare the students for the inspiring experience! Due to the number of fourth-grade students attending, two concerts were held. After the two concerts, Maestro Covington provided a clinic for the Salem Hills High Chamber Orchestra.

At the performance students learned about the instrument  families of the orchestra, tonal color and other elements of music. The Utah Symphony is one of only 15 full-time professional orchestras in the United States and have been providing educational programs for schools for over half a century.  The students and teachers dressed up for this special cultural event, and were an excellent audience.

“We are so fortunate to have these amazing programs in our schools and are grateful to the Professional Outreach Program in Schools (POPS), State Legislature, State Board of Education and other generous donors who make these magical events possible! Thank you Utah Symphony for an amazing experience!” exclaimed Julie Christofferson.

Congratulations to Mariah Reynolds for answering this week’s “Where are we Wednesday?” challenge sponsored by Wiggy Wash.
