November 2019 Nebo PEAK Award Winners

THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Pamela Lyman, Teacher, Salem Hills High
Nominated by: Emily Van Ausdal & Lori Cunningham

“Mrs. Lyman is my biology teacher. I was pretty nervous to start her class and didn't know if the class was going to be hard for me. Her teaching skills make it easy for me to understand the curriculum. She gives us note packets that have the entire term’s curriculum. She goes though terms with us and explains everything in great detail. The packets allow me to study the material all term long. They are a great resource for tests and assignments. The best parts of her class are the labs that reinforce the notes. I really loved dissecting a frog. I love biology, and I am more sure now that I want to become an RN after taking her class. Mrs. Lyman is an excellent teacher!” ~ Emily Van Ausdal

“Pam Lyman is an outstanding teacher at Salem Hills High School, who excels at giving the students a rigorous learning experience while meeting their personal learning needs. She is a perfect example of positive energy and kindness as she teaches her science and medical anatomy classes. Pam creates a positive classroom environment where students are known and nurtured in their individual learning styles. She often teaches with hands-on experiences that create more engaged learning. When teaching new concepts with new vocabulary, she gives students learning support with clear descriptions and ties their past experiences and understanding to the new learning so that students can remember it. Pam goes about her work quietly but each student’s needs are carefully considered and met. When I talk with students about the teachers who help them learn, her name always comes up. She will stay late to meet with students and parents to find solutions to learning problems. She is always willing to give of her personal time to come up with teaching adjustments to help an individual learner find success. Her students know she really cares about them and their learning.” ~ Lori Cunningham

Kristin Northcutt, Facilitator, Mapleton Elementary
Nominated by: Julie Peery

“Kristin is such an excellent facilitator and thoughtful person in general! She goes out of her way to make sure the interns and provisional teachers have not only all of the information they need in advance, but also the support they need as they navigate their new careers in education. Kristin models both best instructional practices and professionalism. She is easy to approach with any question because she helps find the answers. All teachers feel her love and concern because of the kindness she shows every day in big and small ways. Because Kristin works with students in various ways each day, they know and love her. She directs our student council and finds ways to help them truly lead and shine. Kristin works tirelessly to help our school run smoothly and is willing to help anyone with anything. I can't express my appreciation enough for her Positive Energy And Kindness as a facilitator, teacher, mentor, co-worker, and friend.”

Randy Leetham, Bus Driver, Transportation
Nominated by: Diane Butterfield

“Randy is amazing with his bus kids. My grandsons rode his kindergarten bus and love him. He is always pleasant and loving, which not an easy task with five year olds. Randy always has toys to help the kids feel comfortable on the ride home and make them feel special. He remembers their birthdays and special holidays with treats. I'm sure his paycheck is all spent on the kids. Randy always makes sure there is a parent or responsible adult there when he drops the kids off after school. Randy will toot the bus horn as a hello when he sees me outside in the yard on his afternoon route. He took a personal interest in my grandson and his love for trains and gave him a small engine. Randy is every parent’s, grandparent’s, and kid’s dream of a fun, caring, and loving bus driver. Every child should be lucky enough to have a Randy Leetham as their driver.”

Tylene Shelley, Nurse, Meadow Brook Elementary
Nominated by: Heather Balli

“Tylene works at two different schools. I am so impressed by the kindness, compassion, and calm demeanor which she exhibits towards students, parents, and staff. Tylene always has a positive attitude and works diligently to ensure that the needs of all her students are met. Not only is Tylene a fantastic nurse, but she is a true team player. When Tylene sees a need, she jumps in to help in any way that she can (often playing the role of secretary or even skills coach). Tylene’s focus on students and positive can-do attitude make her a true Nebo Hero! Thanks Tylene for helping make Meadow Brook a great place to be.”

Russ Sumens, Teacher, Mt. Nebo Junior
Nominated by: Ryan McGuire

“Russ works relentlessly to make sure all our teachers’ needs are met before his own. The first week of school, he was here early and stayed late to ensure the teachers’ computers were working. He also took on the assignment to train our staff on new technology in the form of interactive panels, which he created. Russ also organized our grant team and student council. I admire Russ and his work ethic. As a new principal at Mt. Nebo, I have been extremely grateful to have a teacher like Mr. Sumens at my school.”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
