Nebo Students and Schools Honor and Thank Veterans

Nebo students and schools honor and thank many veterans across our district. We have captured a few photos. Take time to scroll through the touching photos; they may bring tears to your eyes.

Various schools and classes took time to honor veterans and even visit veterans in the Veteran's Home. Many of the students prepared weeks ago to present a patriotic program through songs and word to honor these veterans.

What the students gained in return was and an emotional and educational experience that most of the students will never forget.

When Wilson Elementary visited the Veteran’s Home in Payson, the Veterans entered the room slowly with walkers, wheelchairs, and scooters. As the flag was presented, those same veterans removed their hats and rose to their feet to salute the flag and listen to the children sing the National Anthem, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Rob Marsden said, “To see each of them make that great effort to show their respect for their country and their flag was an amazing life lesson for these students.  It was evident that Tina Samuels and Dan Hansen, the students' fifth-grade teachers, had devoted considerable time to writing scripts, choosing songs, and rehearsing with the students. The students' confident and stirring performance was proof that great love and effort had been poured into this project.  As students delivered dialogue, sang in small groups, or as a whole grade level, many of the veterans sang along--some loudly, others silently mouthing the words to themselves.”

Tears rolled freely down the cheeks of the young students as well as the older, life-worn cheeks of the veterans. Then, the students spent time visiting with the veterans and learning firsthand from those who had served our great country.

Thank you, veterans and students, for presenting a soul-stirring program. Thank you, veterans, for your service that we may all live in a free country and have a right to a free public education. Thank you to all our military personnel for the sacrifices you make for our freedom!
