Second graders transformed into zoo biologists this week! Using their five senses and sharp science skills, they became detectives, solving clues about mysterious objects from Utah’s wild habitats. Their investigations led to exciting discoveries—and a special meet-and-greet with real-life animal stars: a tiger salamander from the wetlands and a desert-dwelling chuckwalla! A huge thank you to Hogle Zoo for making this unforgettable adventure possible!

For the 100th day of school, my students enjoyed bringing in 100 items, creating 10 ice cream scoops with 10 sprinkles each, writing a paragraph about all the things they have learned in 100 days, and seeing if they can write 100 words. Many of them thought they didn’t know 100 words, but they were able to do it! Dressing up as “100 years old” might have been the best part!

Students have been busy learning in the library! We’ve explored how snowflakes are formed (2nd grade won our snowflake scavenger hunt!) and we’ve also been learning about the different genres available in our collection. Students are becoming pros at identifying fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama.

MUSIC at our school
Foothills
Jan-Feb 2026

Did you know that Foothills Elementary and Nebo School District participate in the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program (BTS Arts)? BTS Arts Music Specialist, Laura Brockbank, will be visiting our school for the next seven weeks. She will be working with teachers and students, together to find ways to integrate music into the school day. Music can be used to enrich the learning of everyday subjects like math, literacy, science, and social studies. Music can also be a fun way to engage students and get them creating! Be on the lookout for Mrs. Brockbank playing piano in the mornings and popping into classrooms with music!
