Jocelyn Vest Substitute of the Year

Nebo School District is proud to announce that Joycelyn Vest has been named Edustaff’s 2025–2026 Substitute of the Year for the state of Utah.

Since joining the district in February 2023, Vest has become an essential part of the Nebo family, particularly at Landmark High School. Known for greeting students at the door with a warm smile, she balances a positive attitude with clear, consistent boundaries.

Landmark staff members offered glowing praise in their award nominations, highlighting her reliability and deep commitment to student success:

  • "Joycelyn is the absolute best! She comes to school with a positive attitude and genuine concern for the students."

  • "Joycelyn is consistent, reliable, builds relationships with students, and has integrated into our school seamlessly. She is always our go-to substitute at Landmark."

  • "She brings such joy to the classroom and sets high expectations... We love when she subs at Landmark High School!"

Prior to substituting, Vest worked in admissions for residential treatment centers, supporting parents and editing educational content. With a daughter who is also an educator, Vest brings a deep respect for classroom teachers into her daily work. Her top advice for new substitutes reflects that perspective: follow the sub plan precisely to respect the teacher’s hard work, and maintain firm boundaries to give students the structure they need.

Driven by a lifelong love of learning, Vest’s passion for growth extends far beyond the classroom. She has completed a semester abroad in Jerusalem, built a school in Africa, trekked over 200 miles of the Camino de Santiago in Spain, and explored Peru and Bolivia while earning her degree at Utah Valley University. At home, she enjoys active outdoor living, sewing and quilting, and baking elaborate birthday treats for her grandchildren.

Nebo School District congratulates Joycelyn Vest on this well-deserved statewide honor and thanks her for her extraordinary dedication to our students and schools.
