Payson Graduation

The UCCU Events Center at Utah Valley University was flooded with silver and green this Wednesday morning as the Payson High School Class of 2026 gathered for their Commencement Exercises. Centered around the forward-looking theme, "We're just getting started," the ceremony was a vibrant tribute to the resilience, diversity, and ambition of this year's graduating class.

The ceremony opened with the traditional sounds of the PHS Pipe Band, leading the Senior Class into the arena. Following the processional, the PHS Trouveres delivered a moving rendition of the National Anthem, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Dannie F. Fillmore.

Senior Class President Liriel L. Keller welcomed the assembly with a speech titled “And Time Goes by So Quickly.” Her remarks touched on the bittersweet nature of graduation, urging her classmates to cherish the memories made within the walls of PHS even as they prepare for the fast-paced world ahead.

The program featured two deeply personal and inspiring student addresses:

Valedictorian Helen D. Rodriguez Ramirez spoke on “The Strength in Our Struggles and Differences.” She highlighted the unique tapestry of the student body, reminding her peers that their diverse backgrounds and the obstacles they’ve overcome are their greatest assets.

Salutatorian Bentley A. Myers delivered a compelling message titled “Do Not Be the Thief of Your Own Life,” challenging the graduates to live authentically and pursue their passions without the burden of self-doubt.

The PHS Music Programs joined forces for a breathtaking musical number, performing “When You Believe” by Stephen Schwartz. The arrangement, featuring John Moss's accompaniment, served as a soaring anthem for the morning, echoing the graduates' belief in their potential as they transition into adulthood.

The final portion of the ceremony was presided over by district and school leadership:

Brian Rowley, a member of the Nebo Board of Education, addressed the class, offering the district's support and congratulations.

Principal Jesse Sorenson offered closing remarks and oversaw the Presentation of Diplomas, officially certifying the seniors as Payson High graduates.

As the graduates exited the arena during the Recessional, the energy was electric. While their time as high school students has ended, the message of the day remained clear: for the Class of 2026, the journey is truly just beginning.

Congratulations to our newest PHS Alumni!
