The UCCU Event Center at Utah Valley University was filled with Red Devil pride this Tuesday as Springville High School held its Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2026. Guided by the hopeful sentiment of Mac Miller, “That there’s a whole lot more for me waiting,” the ceremony honored the achievements, service, and bright futures of this year’s graduates.
The ceremony began with the timeless tradition of the Fanfare and Processional. Led by Mr. Alex Booth, the Springville High School Orchestra performed Sir Edward Elgar’s classic arrangement as the graduates made their final march together into the arena.
The formal proceedings commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance and a warm welcome from Senior Class President William Rex, who set the tone for the afternoon’s event.
One of the most touching moments of the program was the presentation of the Outstanding Service Award. Principal Robert Fleming took the stage to recognize Jason Gwilliam for his exceptional contributions to the school and community, highlighting the spirit of selflessness that defines the Class of 2026.
The audience was then treated to a series of inspiring addresses from student leaders:
Salutatorian Daniel Anderson reflected on the shared growth and academic hurdles the class overcame.
Valedictorian Anna Kent delivered a powerful message regarding the potential held by every student in the room.
Principal’s Choice Speaker Valentina Acosta shared a unique perspective on the journey through SHS.
William Rex returned to the podium for a final presidential address, offering parting words of wisdom to his peers.
The Springville High arts department provided a stunning soundtrack for the afternoon:
The SHS Choral Union, conducted by Dr. Cory Mendenhall and accompanied by Emily Marshall, performed a stirring rendition of "Man in the Mirror." The message of personal change and reflection resonated deeply with the departing seniors.
Later in the program, the SHS Orchestra performed "Merry-Go-Round of Life" by Joe Hisaishi. The whimsical yet sophisticated piece, conducted by Mr. Alex Booth, captured the beautiful complexity of the high school experience.
Following remarks from Nebo School District Board Member Dr. John Taylor, the moment the students had been waiting for finally arrived. Principal Robert Fleming officially presented the Class of 2026.
Accompanied by the traditional sounds of the Pipe Band, graduates crossed the stage to receive their diplomas from the Nebo School District Board of Education. The names of the graduates were announced by Brad Northcutt and Ivan Cardenas, ensuring every student had their moment of recognition before the final Recessional.
Congratulations to the Springville High School Class of 2026! We cannot wait to see the "whole lot more" that is waiting for you.
