The Nebo Education Foundation meets each month at 7:00 a.m. to discuss submitted educational grant proposals for students in Nebo School District. One of the goals of the foundation is to fund worthwhile projects in the district that provide resources to enrich student learning.

President Stacy Nance said, “”It's exciting to be a part of an organization that improves the learning opportunities for our kids in Nebo School District. With tremendous support of local businesses and giving citizens, the Nebo Education Foundation can provide resources to teachers to enhance the quality of education for our kids in the classroom. Everyone wins when the kids benefit.”

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to inspire the minds of students.

Wilson Elementary – Carli Wright
“As an elementary counselor, I love using tools such as books, games, Play-doh, kinetic sand, stress balls, puzzles, and art to help my students work through their challenges.  Students relax and open up when they are comfortable and having fun. They are also more likely to internalize lessons when they can see a visual representation or manipulate something tangible with their hands. Many common games such as Jenga, Connect Four, Cat’s Cradle, and Suspend can be used to teach and PRACTICE skills and concepts such as emotional regulation, self-control, problem-solving, anger management, self-awareness, and social interaction.  I have already purchased many items on my own for my counseling office, and I am thrilled to be able to add to my ‘toolbox’ to help kiddos grow stronger and more mindful!  THANK YOU, Nebo Foundation, for investing in not only our students’ academic education but also in their social-emotional learning!” exclaimed Carli Wright, counselor at Wilson Elementary.

Brockbank Elementary – Robin Martin
“Thank you so much for helping us get the funds to help our special needs students have a voice and new materials to make learning fun and engaging. The classes with special needs can't always use paper worksheets, they need hands on materials to aid in learning. I am so grateful I can access funds quickly and easily through the Nebo Education Foundation. THANK YOU!!!!” exclaimed Robin Martin, speech specialist at Brockbank Elementary.

Barnett Elementary – Cheri Kunz
Cheri Kunz, kindergarten teacher at Barnett Elementary, said, “This grant will be used for touchscreen Chromebooks in transitional kindergarten. With the help of this grant we will have enough Chromebooks for a full center of five students. The students will have consistent access to math and reading practice at their own personal level. It will also help them become familiar with the technology and programs they will be using in their education in years to come. We have approximately 30 students each year who will benefit from this grant. I appreciate the time, thoughtfulness, and resources of those who contributed to helping our students!”

Salem Hills High – Becky Rosenberg
Becky Rosenberg, art teacher at Salem Hills High, said, “I wanted to give a big thanks to the Nebo Education Foundation and all its supporters for approving this Grant. I have always wanted to display my students work in ceramics, but the display cases in the school are a coveted item and most of them are spoken for. I feel that my students work is as important to showcase as any of the other amazing things that are happening at the school, and because It is 3D, there have not been any options until now! I will be purchasing Digital Photo frames to hang in the hall to display students' work. We will have featured students each month, and also have a loop of all the fun things students are working on in class. I think this will be a great way for students to showcase their work without having to have a large area to display it. I also know students are drawn to digital screens!, so It will draw the attention of all the students coming down the Hall!
I am excited to finally be able to showcase all the amazing things these students are doing!. So,thank you so much for the funds to help make this possible!”

Mt. Loafer Elementary – Katie Gard
“I am so excited and appreciative to receive this Grant! I will be able to purchase test dividers that will help lessen distractions during test taking and other independent work.  Being able to lesson distractions will increase the focus and productivity of my students. Calculators will be used on a daily basis for 6th grade Math and Science. Headphones will be used for daily Chromebook use.  There will be so many more exciting things I can do technologically with my students if they all have access to a set of headphones!  (i-Ready, Flipgrid, Epic/Myon Reading, Readworks, Reflex Math, etc.),” said Katie Gard, sixth-grade teacher at Mt. Loafer Elementary. “I incorporate art into a lot of my lessons, and it will be so nice to have a construction paper storage unit so that this area in my classroom is more accessible to my students. I know that both my students and I will be grateful daily for the generosity of those that have made it possible for us to receive these amazing and needed resources for our classroom!  We appreciate it more than you know!”

Mapleton Junior – Kirsten Hullinger, Eric Baum, & Kate Henderson
“Mapleton Junior High (MJHS) would like to thank the Nebo Education Foundation for their generous grant that will enable us to buy the needed supplies for a regulation station at our school. A regulation station is an easy to run, therapy designed program that organizes and helps to calm down the brain of a child who is dysregulated. We have seen a spike over the past few years in students who are overwhelmed with stress and anxiety and are excited to put into practice this program. We appreciate the support and confidence the Nebo Foundation has in us by generously providing us with the funds needed to get this program off the ground! Thank you!” exclaimed Kirsten Hullinger, counselor at Mapleton Junior.

Goshen Elementary – Abby Haines
Abby Haines, fifth-grade teacher at Goshen Elementary, said, “Thank you so much for granting me the opportunity to get new books for my classroom library. These books will be used to replace some of my worn-down/outdated books in my current classroom library. I'm grateful for the opportunity to purchase new books so that my students want to read and get excited about reading.”

Mapleton Elementary – Second Grade Team
“This year, Mapleton Elementary second-grade classes received Touch Chromebooks to enhance instruction in their classrooms. These Chromebooks need frequent charging in order for students to be able to access them and use them throughout the day. We wrote the grant for the charging stations which will not only charge the Chromebooks, but will also organize them in the classroom to make access to them and the transitions between use easier and more efficient. We are extremely grateful to Nebo Foundation for providing the matching funds for the charging stations and for making a difference for so many students,” stated the second-grade team at Mapleton Elementary.

The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of approximately 20 volunteer board members who live in cities serviced by Nebo School District.  Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students.  Many of the donations received are for selected projects, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need. Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools.
