December 2019 Nebo PEAK Award Winners

THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Tim Mendenhall, Teacher, Rees Elementary
Nominated by: Amy Darrington

“Tim Mendenhall is one of a kind. I just watched a lesson that he gave about volume and weight. Students were pretending to be Fed-EX delivery people and had to decide critical information about their ‘packages.’ The lesson was hands on, and students were weighing objects and figuring volume to decide if they would float or sink in water. Students were engaged and loved every second of the lesson, while learning how to apply the content material in their lives. This is one small example of how Tim teaches. Students learn in his class because it is exciting and applicable.

“Tim is a critical part of the culture at Rees. He is the ‘go to’ for any project that needs to be completed. He painted a phenomenal set for the ‘Lion King’ play, wrote a grant for science funding in sixth grade, taught the photography class for our Artist in Residence program, set up and decorated for the Christmas store, and planned our Healthy Living Week. Tim does all of this because it benefits students. He never seeks personal recognition, he just wants students to be successful in school and in life.”

Wendy Dimond, Teacher, Brockbank Elementary
Nominated by: Jennifer Jolley & Larraine Nelso
n
“Wendy Dimond exemplifies the definition of a hero. She provides extraordinary service every day! Wendy goes out of her way to positively impact people around her. She looks for ways to make a difference by doing small and meaningful acts to brighten people's lives. She is aware of others and quietly goes about filling needs throughout the entire school. It doesn't matter what someone's role is, she cares about everyone. Wendy is also an amazing teacher! She is kind, loving, and patient. She goes above and beyond teaching the special needs kindergartners in her class. It appears to those of us around her that she exudes magic, which she sprinkles on her students. Her magic dries tears, spreads smiles, and has students performing above expectations!”~ Jennifer Jolley

“Wendy is so much fun to work with and always makes my day with her fun laugh and light-hearted personality! The parents love her and are so appreciative of all that she does. She works so hard and she is so deserving of this award!” ~ Larraine Nelson

Alicia Carter, Teacher, Goshen Elementary
Nominated by: Lynette DeGraffenried

“Alicia works hard to help all of her students learn at high levels. She is using technology daily in her classroom including Google classroom for writing, reading, science, and social studies assignments. Alicia is one of our math leaders as Goshen's teachers participate in CMI training. In her classroom she uses a flip approach to math learning. CMI naturally fits into her math instruction.

“Alicia has been a student council advisor for four years. She helped build student leadership capacity through teaching monthly character education themes in each of our classrooms.

“Alicia cares about her students and has implemented a Love and Logic classroom management system with her students.”

Penny Wilson, Secretary, Payson Junior
Nominated by: Jesse Sorenson

“Penny has stepped in to a tough job and learned it very quickly. She is very friendly and works hard to keep our school finances running smoothly. She's the heart of our school. Parents love her, students love her, and we love her. Penny’s positive energy and excitement for life is contagious. She's very deserving of this award.”

Ronda Slater, Secretary, Foothills Elementary
Nominated by: Julie Wilcox

“Ronda is the first person parents interact with as they come into our school. She is always happy to help, and she is very efficient. Ronda works in a professional manner. She is so knowledgeable and welcoming to everyone. We love Ronda at Foothills.”

Kellie Roberts, Teacher, Salem Junior
Nominated by: Alex Robinson

“Kellie always brightens my day when I see her. I know she does the same for her students. She is an excellent teacher with wonderful content. Students truly appreciate her teaching and message. She is one of those teachers that students will never forget.”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, www.nebo.edu/PEAK wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools. The name and contact information of the nominator must be included.
