Cherry Creek to be on KSL’s High 5 Segment Wednesday Morning

Cherry Creek Elementary in Nebo School District will be featured in a High 5 segment on KSL Channel 5 on Wednesday morning, December 11, 2019, starting around 5:00 a.m. for the kindness shown by Cherry Creek students and educators towards Rocco Scott and his family. 

Shara Park, a reporter from KSL Channel 5 television, heard what great things were happening at Cherry Creek Elementary and came with a special surprise this past week. As a reward for acts of kindness, Shara brought 600 donuts to share with Cherry Creek students!  

Morgan Black, PTA member, helped to organized this wonderful giving to the Scott Family. She said, “After the PTA had heard that Rocco and his family got in to a pretty bad car accident over fall break, we decided to organize a ‘Penny Wars’ at the school.” 

Penny Wars is when each grade has a competition against the others in collecting change for a cause. Each grade has huge bottles placed in the office with their grade numbers on them. All dollars and silver coins are taken at face value and count as points towards whatever grade they are put in. Pennies count as negative points and take away from the grade they are put in. 

“The PTA was set up and ready to go before school started on Monday October 21, 2019, and it ran throughout the week. The office was lined with kids before and after school each day. Our PTA and office staff would often help kids who brought in baggies and baggies full of change. (The pennies were sorted from the silver coins.) At the end of the week, the PTA counted the totals for each grade to determine the winners. We raised $4,385.63 for the Scott Family,” stated Morgan Black.
