Principal Michael Johnson addressed the Nebo School Board of Education and said, “I would like to begin by saying how much I appreciate where I work. Hobble Creek Elementary has a community that is extremely supportive of their school, a team of teachers and staff that are dedicated to the students they serve, and a group of students that are hardworking, kind, and bright. Our students, teachers, staff, and parents are what make Hobble Creek Elementary feel like home.”

Sixth-grade students, Sadie Boring and Ethan Chahua, introduced the Math Olympiad Program that was started by Sadie’s father, Brian Boring. Hobble Creek participated in the national math competition series and just recently fell short of being named one of the top schools in the nation. The Math Olympiad students participate in five competitions each year and are presented with five questions each, which are not easy. The students enjoy the competition and the way it pushes them to excel in math.

The PTA President, Debbie Rex, who also serves on the School Community Council presented next. She said, “I am happy to represent our School Community Council tonight. At our most recent meeting we discussed our school’s RISE test scores to help us determine the greatest academic needs as we create our School Improvement Plan and allocate our Trustlands funding. Currently we are spending our Trustlands funding on a reading technician to run the Imagine Learning Program, a Heggerty reading technician, a math and STEAM enrichment technician, as well as a reading recovery teacher that is a wonderful mom willing to offer her specialized skills and training”

Hobble Creek Elementary also focuses on funding teacher professional development and the fine arts programs. Debbie said that the Board will hear and see one of the amazing art performances tonight.

Principal Michael stated, “I’m so excited for you to hear from these talented students. I only wish you could see the entire show, because they are amazing!”

The Hobble Creek presentation ended with a beautiful musical selection of Aladdin’s “Friend in Me” performed by the Musical Review group that was started by the talented Tiffany Fish, a past PTA president of Hobble Creek.  Tiffany developed the idea of a program where children could express themselves through dance and music. The Musical Review is one of the most popular programs at Hobble Creek.
