Another Chance at Nationals -- Chris Wright

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

Chris Wright, one of Nebo School District’s excellent auto and diesel mechanics won first place at Utah’s Association of Public Transportation state competition. Winning the state title is not new to Chris. He competed and previously won two championships in 2007 and 2008, and again this year, 2012.

The state and national competitions consist of a written test as well as a timed, hands-on test where the mechanics have to trouble-shoot, diagnose, and repair the problem. Speed and accuracy are part of the combined score in determining the final winner.

Chris has already been a National Champion once in 2007 when the competition was hosted by CAT in Peoria, Illinois. This year he will compete the end of September in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. This national competition will be hosted by Cummins. Chris’ family said he is very excited to tour the Cummins Factory.

Joe Warren, Transportation Supervisor, said, “All of Nebo’s technicians are professional and safety always comes first. In fact, their safety is impeccable. We are thrilled that Chris can represent our mechanics’ department at Nationals.”

Chris received his auto mechanics and diesel mechanic degrees at Utah Valley University. He has also been recognized as Fireman of the Year for Salem City in 2009 where he has served as a volunteer since 2007 and as captain of engineering since 2008. Chris was also a guest speaker at the 2011 Student Transportation News Expo in Reno, Nevada.

Chris has been married 11 years to Jenn. They have a six-year old son, Carson, and a new baby, Zoie.

Congratulations Chris! We know you will represent Nebo well!
