The Nebo School Board of Education were delighted with Spanish Fork Junior’s Presentation.

Principal Chris Loveless thanked the Board for this wonderful opportunity to present and introduced two leadership students, McKenna Andersen and Matai Johnson, both ninth-graders, that presented on activities and the Multiculturalism Week.

Matai said, “We support each club at the school. We plan after school and lunch tournaments like dodgeball, spirit week, assemblies, charitable fundraisers, and of course, dances.”

McKenna said, “We try to learn a new name at school during the week.”

Matai said the theme for the Multiculturalism Week came from M Scott Peck: “Share our similarities, celebrate our difference.”

McKenna and Matai mentioned the students were involved in some of the following multiculturalism activities: Kuub from Sweden, Japanese ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ and Paper Sumo wrestling, Native potato dance, and African Diketo (jacks with rocks). The students even tasted treats and had tried crafts from other countries like: Argentina, Mexico, and Native communities. Students received passports and earned stamps to buy multicultural treats. A highlight was having Living Legends from BYU come and perform African, Latin American, Native, and Polynesian numbers.

Spanish Fork Junior’s Leadership class consists of students that are on student council, Hope Squad, and National Junior Honor Society. This class is also offered as an elective so any student can take the class that would like to be involved and learn more about leadership. The students in Leadership help plan and organize some of the school’s assemblies and activities. The student leaders find fun ways to promote these activities and work hard to help create a positive culture in our school. Thank you to Susan E. Anderson who teaches the class.  Mrs. Anderson creates a positiveness that permeates the school and creates a positive culture.

One of the highlights of the evening was to see the herculean effort it took to bring together the choir, band, and orchestra that performed “Ain't No Mountain High Enough” for the Nebo School Board of Education. Thank you to Leni Thomson, Bridgett Johnson, and Madison Moline. What rock stars you are!

Congratulations to Kimberly Rands for answering this week’s “Where are we Wednesday?” challenge sponsored by Wiggy Wash.
