Michael Larsen – Human Resource Director

With the recent announcement of Ken Van Ausdal’s retirement, the Nebo School Board of Education appointed Michael Larsen as the Human Resource Director for Nebo School District.

Mr. Michael Larsen served as Director of Special Education & Federal Programs for the past six years. He served as Principal of Sierra Bonita Elementary for five years and Rees Elementary for the previous seven years. Mr. Larsen was honored with the BYU Excellence in Educational Leadership in 2013. He was selected as Rookie Principal of the Year 2005 and 2006 for Nebo School District and Principal Innovator of the Year 2007 by the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals. He was also selected the Leadership Preparation Program (LPP) at BYU.

A colleague, said, “Mike Larsen is a leader who leads by example.  He has excellent communication skills, vision, and the ability to share his passion for education with others. He is a man of integrity and is devoted to doing what is best for students.  Mike is superb in making personal connections with children and parents. They can feel his love and concern through his enthusiasm and positive energy.”

Mr. Larsen said, “I have considered it a privilege every day to be part of Nebo School District for the past 24 years. My years in Nebo began as I was hired to be a fifth-grade teacher at Mapleton Elementary. I absolutely loved those years. I was then given the amazing gift of serving as the principal of Rees Elementary and then Sierra Bonita Elementary. Most recently, I have been fortunate to serve as the Director of Special Education/Federal Programs and have learned so much and have worked alongside the most gifted and thoughtful teachers and staff. I will be forever grateful for these years. I am humbled and excited to join our district's remarkable Human Resource Department and look forward to continuing to learn so much every day. I am grateful to serve alongside the most thoughtful, kind, and hard-working people, the employees of Nebo School District.”

Mike enjoys outdoor family recreational activities, home improvements, and working in his yard. Some of his favorite activities are riding enduro motorcycles and watching his son motocross race. Mike is married to Cindy, and they have five children and two grandchildren.
