The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities served by Nebo School District. Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students.
These grants are funded through the fund-raising efforts of the Nebo Education Foundation board. The Nebo Foundation also accepts donations from individuals and businesses to support these grants and other projects.

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to bless the lives of students.

Salem Hills High – Christie Tolbert
“I am truly grateful for the contribution made by the Nebo Education Foundation to our endeavors to create a rich learning environment for our students — especially those who are working diligently now to get a head start in college.  Students in our AP Calculus and AP Statistics courses are required to take a timed test at the end of the school year. This test will determine whether or not they will earn college credit for Calculus and Statistics. Every second counts on this test. The calculators we are currently using are very old — some are more than 10 years old — and have very slow processors. Further, these old calculators lack current features such as colored curve sketching and clear graphing windows that are prevalent on newer calculators. Just a small change in calculators can give students a big advantage on these large-stake tests. In addition, these newer calculators help students to better explore and understand the concepts they are learning,” said Christie Tolbert, math teacher at Salem Hills High.

Goshen Elementary – Ben Atkin
“We are so thankful for the Nebo Education Foundation and the grant they have awarded us. These 280 readers and eight picture books the grant will purchase will really help us teach our Goshen Family. In Goshen, many of our students face difficult circumstances that go beyond learning to read. These books not only help students learn to read, but this literacy kit is also full of stories about people just like them who overcome the hard situations they are in and rise above their trials,” stated principal Ben Atkin. “These books will be used by staff at our school to help teach good morals as well as literacy. When students are having trouble with teasing, instead of the teacher just talking to them about it, she can pull out one of the many books in this kit and read it with her students. A student struggling with feelings of acceptance can look in the guides and find books to read that help them understand and cope with their feelings. As a principal, I will use these books as well. I will read the books in individual classrooms to help me build relationships with students there. If there is a problem I see happening with particular students, I can go into their classroom and read books that help address those issues. It gives me an opportunity to build relationships with kids that really need it and to teach students about the problems they are facing during these difficult times. At Goshen, we would like to tell the Nebo Education Foundation how much we appreciate their commitment to kids and their love for our district.”

Springville Junior High – Elizabeth Denis
“The English Department at SJHS is excited and grateful to receive this grant from the Nebo Education Foundation! We applied for this grant with the desire to build better content access for English language learners in our classes. The funds from this grant will provide us the opportunity to purchase simplified and/or translated versions of texts that we use in both 8th and 9th grade English courses. Thank you so much for considering our need and desire to reach our ELL students,” said Elizabeth Denis, English teacher at Springville Junior.

Sage Creek Elementary – Megan Morrow
“We have been trying to find a product that will enhance our writing and math instruction. We found these writing tablets and think that they will make all the difference in our classrooms. They provide a stylus that will allow students to write full sentences and math equations without having to worry about bulky markers and erased work on whiteboards. It also will save us a plethora of funds on papers, expo markers, etc. We would use these in our small group instruction and in whole class instruction. These are incredibly versatile, age appropriate, and a new medium for learning. We are so excited and thankful to the Nebo Foundation for making this purchase possible! They truly are making new and meaningful learning possible,” said Megan Morrow, first-grade teacher at Sage Creek Elementary.
