The Nebo Education Foundation board met in May, to discuss the many grants and needs across the district. This Foundation Board functions through generous donations made by individuals and businesses as well as fundraisers where all the money goes to educate students in Nebo School District.

One fund-raising effort is the annual “Green Fever” golf tournament that helps fund these various grants throughout the year. It will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021. We appreciate the generous support of so many businesses and individuals to help pull this off. Thank you to all those that so generously supported Nebo students.

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to inspire the minds of students.

Spanish Fork Junior – Chance Carter
“I am extremely grateful to be a recipient of this Nebo Foundation Grant. As an English Teacher, I strive to help students develop a love for reading as they increase their reading skills throughout the year. Many of my students are highly-proficient in reading and are in need of a larger selection of books at a higher reading level. I am going to use these funds to increase the number of books in my classroom library to serve as a resource to hundreds of students who desire to excel in their reading interests. Receiving these funds means a lot to me and to the many students who will be benefiting from these books in the years to come,” stated Chance Carter, English teacher at Spanish Fork Junior.

Mt. Nebo Middle – Rebecca Reber
Rebecca Reber, librarian at Mt. Nebo Middle said, “I am very pleased to receive this grant from the Nebo Foundation. Our school has never had a 3D Design class before, but an informal survey I sent out came back with lots of student interest in starting one. I chose the Dremel printer because it has several very positive reviews for use in school and also comes with lessons to help a teacher who is new to the process (like me) get started. As we all know, this kind of design helps students develop skills that they can then apply to classes and careers later on. Because our school has a strong relationship with the Boys and Girls Club of Utah, the design class will be part of their program. Additionally, they are providing $424.75 in matching funds to help us purchase the printer. The final $424.75 is coming from our own school, thanks to our principal-to-be, Rhet Rowley. Thank you for helping our school to develop this program”

Foothills Elementary – Jenny Headman
“We are so excited to be able to purchase quality headphones for our first-grade students. First-graders are hard on headphones. We use them multiple times a day. The headphones will be a wonderful addition to our first grade classrooms. Thank you Nebo Foundation!” exclaimed Jenny Headman, first-grade teacher at Foothills Elementary.

Brockbank Elementary – Jennifer Jolley
“Thank you Nebo Education Foundation for  approving Brockbank's grant! Your generosity is greatly appreciated! The funds will be used to purchase books for our leveled library which will benefit our entire student body! It is our goal to teach students the love of reading! The materials purchased with this grant allows our teachers to cultivate this desire in our students. Thank you for supporting students' growth!" exclaimed Jennifer Jolley, intern facilitator at Brockbank Elementary.

Taylor Elementary – Clint Cornwall
Clint Cornwall, staff developer at Taylor Elementary, said, “Thank you, thank you, thank you! Taylor Elementary will greatly benefit from the Hi Interest, Low Readability books and the Kindergarten Deocodable books! We are so excited to get these books to be able to use. Our upper grade teachers and students need more access to books that they want to read and can be successful at reading. These books will be so motivating to our students and help them to grow into great readers.  The Kindergarten Decodable books will be so helpful for our kindergarten students to practice all the skills they are learning from their teachers.  Our teachers are excited to have these books to help support the skills that kindergartners need. Thank you so much!”

The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities serviced by Nebo School District.  Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students. Many of the donations received are for selected projects, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need. Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools.
