The Nebo Education Foundation meets each month at 7:00 a.m. to discuss submitted educational grant proposals for students in Nebo School District. One of the goals of the foundation is to fund worthwhile projects in the district that provide resources to enrich student learning.

Kristina Christensen, past president of the Nebo Education Foundation, said, “It is a pleasure to receive the grant applications and see how remarkable and creative the Nebo District teachers are. The Nebo Education Foundation facilitates these grant monies to help teachers realize their ideas and the students’ potential. As a foundation, we get to see a glimpse at how well our teachers are instructing our students. Our teachers are truly talented and utilize every penny. They do such a great job!”

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to inspire the minds of students.

Sage Creek Elementary – Lindsey Smith
Lindsey Smith, an instructional coach at Sage Creek Elementary said, “Sage Creek is absolutely thrilled to receive a grant for decodable readers! Having a library of books that support phonics-based principles will be invaluable to our teachers in their reading instruction. These books will allow teachers to instruct on a specific concept and then help students solidify that learning through direct practice in that skill. We are so excited to see the growth our students will make in their reading using these books!”

Spanish Oaks Elementary – Emily Monroe
Emily Monroe, special education teacher at Spanish Oaks, said, “This grant means so much to me. As you know, teachers are limited on their budgets for what they can purchase for their students and classrooms. The decodable books I am purchasing would never have made it into my classroom without this grant. I teach Special Education students that work on different phonics strategies throughout the SPIRE program. This program has decodable books they are able to read on the level they are working on. It's so gratifying to put a decodable book into the hands of a student and to see them get excited because they can actually read a book on their own. This confidence carries over into the other books they read.  As my students progress through the SPIRE levels, I want to continue to fill my bookshelves with books they can read in order to push their reading confidence and abilities.”

Orchard Hills Elementary – Robin Wheatley
Robin Wheatley, instructional coach at Orchard Hills Elementary, said, “Thank you, thank you, thank you! This grant will allow for the purchase of decodable books that will  be used by kindergarten through second or third grade students.  Reading decodable books can help students feel like they are readers even if they only know a few letters.  What a wonderful way to build reading confidence! When teachers use decodable texts in small group reading instruction, they give students the chance to apply the phonics skills they have already been taught.  Combining skills  learned with well designed decodable texts help students become successful readers.   Thank you Nebo Education Foundation for always supporting our readers!”

Mt. Loafer Elementary – Jill Hanks
“Mt. Loafer is so appreciative to the Nebo Education Foundation for funding this grant!  We will use the money to purchase decodable books that will be used by kindergarten through second or third grade students. These books will give our students the opportunity to build confidence and feel like they are readers even if they only know a few letters.  Our teachers will use these decodable texts in small group reading instruction to focus on and reinforce phonics skills to build a strong foundation of reading. Thank you, Nebo Education Foundation!  Your generous donation will help so many students and teachers.” exclaimed Jill Hanks, facilitator at Mt. Loafer Elementary.

Payson High – Marilyn Miller
“The workout equipment has already been used in my class. The students enjoy the different types of workouts we can do with the new workout equipment,” said Marilyn Miller, physical education teacher at Payson High.

Mapleton Junior – Brittany Lundell
“Wow! I am so excited for the opportunity that you all have provided me with to be able to buy my special needs students some balance bounce chairs. My students now will have the opportunity to release their wiggles and help them focus a little more on major concepts that will help them to be independent in all areas of their lives,” stated Brittany Lundell, a special education teacher at Mapleton Junior. “I love to take non-traditional ways of teaching in a hope to meet many different students' needs. Research shows that students that can exercise regularly can learn better. I want to thank everyone on the Nebo Foundation for the opportunity that they have provided my amazing students
with. Thank you again!”
