Nebo Education Foundation Delivers More Grants March  2019

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

The Nebo Education Foundation meets each month at 7:00 a.m. to discuss submitted educational grant proposals for students in Nebo School District. One of the goals of the foundation is to fund worthwhile projects in the district that provide resources to enrich student learning.

Stacy Nance, President of the Nebo Education Foundation, said, “I appreciate the teachers who are looking for ways to improve their teaching and stimulate the children in their classrooms.  I am always happy when the Nebo Education Foundation can fund a grant for those teachers and help them in their important work of teaching our children.”

These grants are funded through the fund-raising efforts of the Nebo Education Foundation board. One fund-raising effort is the annual “Green Fever” golf tournament that helps fund these various grants throughout the year.  The “Green Fever” tournament will be Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Hobble Creek golf course. The foundation also accepts donations from individuals and businesses to support projects.

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to invigorate the lives of students.

Sierra Bonita Elementary – Jennifer Sorensen
Jennifer Sorensen, fifth-grade teacher at Sierra Bonita Elementary, said, “Thank you to the Nebo Education Foundation for the generous donation for chromebooks. This grant will provide enough for my students to be 1:1 student to device.  Chromebooks are a big part of our daily learning. They are used during math to access online digital manipulatives and other resources to improve, enhance, and enrich math skills. Students use chromebooks in language arts for both reading and writing. Students are able to work collaboratively on projects through the many resources Google provides. I can share articles, websites, videos all digitally to my students. Students can work at their own pace, which has helped with interventions, differentiation and enhances their learning. The uses are endless and now that we have the additional amount, all students will access to a device at all times. My students were so excited and I appreciate receiving the donation.”

Brockbank Elementary – Robin Martin
“I received a $440 grant. I can't even believe how generous that is. This money will allow me to buy therapy curriculum for students that have individualized needs. I will also be buying over 30 books that each target a specific articulation sound. These materials will make speech therapy so much fun and help my students with their specific needs. Thank you so much Nebo Foundation,” said Robin Martin, speech specialist at Brockbank Elementary.

Diamond Fork Junior – Janeen Scott
Janeen Scott, English teacher at Diamond Fork Junior, said, “My seventh-grade team is excited to teach Woodsong by Gary Paulsen! This grant has helped buy our class sets of books. It's important to give our student access to non-fiction literature that is high interest and connects with the world around them. Woodsong is a memoir focusing on sled dog racing and the Alaskan Iditarod. We also are following this year's live Iditarod as we read about Paulsen's experiences running the race. My students are amazed by the work and dedication that goes into preparing and running the race and learn that hard work pays off. I'd like to thank the Nebo Foundation and their donors for their generosity in supporting my classroom and our school! Thank you!”

Larsen Elementary – Heide Taylor
“Thank you Nebo Foundation for considering and granting my request for five Chromebooks. I have asked for many things over the years, and the Foundation has helped provide materials for my classroom that I would otherwise not be able to acquire. The grant process is very easy, and I encourage more teachers to use the Nebo Foundation. It is a great organization,” said Heide Taylor, first-grade teacher at Larsen Elementary.

Art City Elementary – Alisa Morgan
Alisa Morgan, kindergarten teacher at Art City Elementary, said, “Thank you, Nebo Foundation, for the grant which will I will use to purchase three new iPads for my kindergarten classroom. This will help my students tremendously! I will now have enough iPads to use them every day during center time. We will be able to use them to play educational games and learning apps, enjoy read alouds, write digital books, practice letter formation, and even create a digital portfolio of some of our work. In addition to that, students are going to love them. They are engaging and easy to use. I can also use them to help motivate and meet the needs of struggling students, as well as enhance learning for those who need enrichment. I’ve wanted enough iPads for a center group for a long time, but haven’t known how to pay for them. Now I’ve got them and I’m thrilled. Thank you!!”
