Nebo Partners with the Utah Highway Patrol on Seat Belts and Safety

Members of the Utah Highway Patrol and local police officers partnered with Nebo School District to give high school-aged students a seatbelt safety reminder. As school let out at each of the high schools in Nebo including Springville High, Maple Mountain High, Spanish Fork High, Salem Hills High, and Payson High, approximately 100 officers and student council representatives handed out over 8,000 candy canes. The student council also created motivational signs to remind students the importance of wearing a seatbelt, especially this time of year.

Trooper Blake Bradford, Utah Highway Patrol, said the best Christmas gift “would be to have no fatalities in the state of Utah, so everyone can spend the holidays as a family, the way it should be.”

Trooper Bradford continued, “It’s so obvious that seatbelts save lives, yet people still don’t do it. At this point I’ll try anything. If this message works, great. If there is something else out there that will help people do it, let me know so I can try that too.” Choking with emotion, he said, “Anything we can do to save lives. That’s what we do. It’s hard to tell the parents their kid isn’t coming home. So, that’s why we chose this today.”

“We are grateful to partnership with the Utah Highway Patrol and all local law enforcement in keeping students safe,” said Lana Hiskey, communications administrator. “We encourage all students and staff to wear seat belts and save lives especially during this holiday season.”
