Kimberly Bird - Nebo Athletic Hall of Fame

This month, Kimberly Bird, a Springville High School athlete, was inducted into the Nebo Athletic Hall of Fame.

Kimberly played both sophomore and junior varsity basketball as a ninth grader. She received SHS Outstanding Player of the Year both as a sophomore and as a junior. As a sophomore, she won All Tournament player as well as All State honors. Her junior year, she won the Region 8 MVP of the Year award and the 3A Player of the Year. Also, she  played on the All-State tournament team.

The Girls’ 1989-1990 Basketball team won the State Championship, the first ever at SHS. The whole town turned out for a fire engine parade into town. That year Kimberly won the State MVP of the Year in both the Desert News and Salt Lake Tribune. That same year she won USA Today McDonald's All American Honorable Mention.

Kimberly didn't just play basketball; she played four years of tennis gathering many awards, one of which was Region 8 MVP player of the year. Springville High School awarded her Outstanding Athlete of the Year.

Kimberly was recruited by Utah Valley Community College (UVCC). While playing for UVCC, their team won Region Champs and placed second at the Texas Basketball tournament. Kimberly was chosen Grossmont Invitational MVP, Valley of the Sun member of Tournament Team, Kodack All-American Honorable Mention, and Champion USA Top Ten Player of the Year. She was highly recruited by Kansas University, but chose to attend Southern State University in Cedar City so her family could continue being a part of her college experience. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a double major in Mathematics and Physical Education with an emphasis in coaching. Kimberly later attended Brigham Young University where she graduated with a master's in Educational Leadership and Foundations, Administrative Certificate in 2005.

Kimberly also played professional basketball in Europe, playing for the "Kangaroo's"--Olympia Basket Regensdorf in Regensdorf, Switzerland. She coached basketball for Springville High for two successful seasons.

After college graduation, she taught in Provo and Alpine School Districts. During her years of teaching and administrative roles, Kimberly has won many school and district awards. Her peers and colleagues speak highly of her dedication and devotion to the field of Education and stated, “She builds students, teachers and peers to their highest potential, with praise and opportunity for growth. Kimberly continues to serve others and improve in all facets of her life.”
