The Two Feathers Endowment is specifically focused onthe involvement of the Indian community. Its goal isto: provide a culturally sensitive, communityresponsive philanthropic vehicle for addressing theneeds within the Indian communities of Minnesota bysupporting artistic, educational, social, and culturaldevelopment activities. Involvement of Indian peoplein all phases of the philanthropic process isfundamental to the success of the Two FeathersEndowment.The following areas of funding priorities have beenestablished: education, children and youth, elders,intergeneration, preservation of culture, and capacitybuilding. Grants will be made to community-based,non-profit organizations within Minnesota that arealso directed or managed by a majority of Indianpeople. Projects seeking modest support from The TwoFeathers endowment to be used in conjunction withother funds or community service and labor willreceive priority. The Center's Native American HonorsInternships program provides select Native studentswith quality, mentored paid practical experience atthe Center, in Durango, Colorado, which is in the FourCorners Region. Working with a variety of types ofspecial collections, the intern will undertake anarrangement and description project, help providereference service to researchers, andparticipate in other library/archives activities atthe Delaney Southwest Research Library. Requirements for all internship categories:
1. Must be an enrolled tribal member of a U.S.federally recognized tribe; this includes NativeHawaiians. This is established by the applicant'sfurnishing the Center of Southwest Studies with eithera Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) or a tribalenrollment card.2. Must have successfully completed 30 undergraduateacademic credits.3. GPA of 2.5 or higher.4. When taking the internship experience for academiccredit, must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA during theinternship period.6. Must be detail-oriented, have strong organizationalskills, be familiar with MS Word and Accessapplications, and be able to lift and carry a 30-poundbox.
