Scholarship
I am writing to inform you of a potential summer opportunity for undergraduate
students with an interest in Native American health issues, as well as
an interest in pursuing graduate studies in medicine (either MD or PhD
programs). We run a program at Harvard Medical School called the Four
Directions Summer Research Program. The goal of our program is to introduce
talented young students to the exciting world of medicine, and to provide
them with the necessary tools to take the next step in their careers.
The students each take on their own research project (under the supervision
of HMS faculty), as well as participate in weekly seminars geared towards
informing the students about potential careers in medicine as well as
practical issues surrounding the application process. The summer of 2005
will mark the 12th year that we have been running this program.
More practical issues
related to students include:
- They will stay at the Harvard Medical School dormitory for the 8 week summer program
- Living stipends are provided
There is more information located
on our website, including application materials:

I hope that you will be able
to distribute this information to any students that you feel would be
interested. I would also love to send you a packet of materials on the
program if you can
