 Behavioral Units

Nebo School District provides special self contained units for students who are classified with an Emotional Disturbance (ED) and whose behavior indicates a need for a more restrictive environment than is typically offered in the regular classroom with resource support. To qualify for admittance into one of these behavioral units the student must have been given the opportunity to succeed in a less restrictive environment with appropriate behavior interventions. If the IEP team feels that a more restrictive environment is needed for the student to be successful then members of the school team will come to a district staffing and present eh case for approval into a special unit.

Emotional Disturbance is used as a generic term to cover two types of behavior difficulties which are not mutually exclusive by which aversely affect educational performance: We address both types of behavior in our units.

  1. Externalizing refers to behavior problems that are directed outwardly by the student towards the social environment and usually involves behavioral excesses.
  2. Internalizing refers to a class of behavior problems that are directed inwardly and often involve behavioral deficits.
