I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley in California. I still have family there, and we have orange groves and olives. I love the ocean, and we try to get to Pismo or Cambria Beach once a year.     I met my husband Jim at BYU, where I graduated in English and later did Student Teaching at Springville Junior High with LaDore Goodsell. I never dreamed that I would be returning to Springville High School to teach many years later!
I raised our four children in Orem, where we currently live, and then I returned to education and teaching. (Our children have provided us with six grandchildren, which have given us the greatest joys of our lives.) I worked in the media centers in Provo School District and later I taught at Independence High School in Provo. I also worked in Alpine School District.     For the last five years, I have taught English at Heritage School, a residential treatment center for troubled youth. I have appreciated the experience and opportunities I had at Heritage. I completed a Special Education endorsement through Weber State in December 2004.

Growing up in California taught me the importance of diversity and understanding. My parents always impressed upon me the value of education and a caring attitude.

After graduating from BYU with a B.S. degree in Psychology, my family and I entered the military. I had the opportunity to serve our country in Germany (before the wall came down), Turkey , Scotland , Italy , Belgium , Korea , Colorado , and at the National Training Center in the high desert of California . While in the military I completed a Master's in Public Administration from Golden Gate University and became Airborne (parachute) qualified.

In 1993, my family and I decided that we would leave the Army. Both my wife (Kimberly, SPED teacher at Sage Creek Elementary) and I then earned Master's in Special Education degrees from the University of Colorado . We also decided to come to Utah to be closer to family.

I worked as a Special Education teacher for 6 years (3 in Colorado and 3 in Utah ) and then returned to the University of Utah to complete my certification as a School Psychologist. I have been fortunate to work with great faculty and students in Payson, Spanish Fork and Springville. I love working with people and helping them see their talents and strengths.

I now also have the honor of being a grandfather to two handsome grandsons. My hobbies include playing with the boys and riding my Harley (therapy).
