Faculty Bios

Ann F. Anderson-Principal

Formerly from Manti, Utah.  She attended school at Snow College, Utah State, and BYU.  She has taught at Bear River High and Bryan High School in Bryan, Texas.  Subjects taught include: History, English, coached Swimming and Track.  In her spare time she enjoys snowmobiling, four-wheeling, scrapbooking, watching children play sports and spending time with family.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because it is a wonderful new facility and an opportunity to start something new, watch it grow and meet a lot of wonderful people.

Nicole Anderson-FFA/Ag

Formerly from Benjamin, Utah.  She attended school at Snow College, and Utah State University.  She has taught at Diamond Fork Junior High, Spanish Fork Junior High, and Mt. Nebo Junior High.  Subjects taught include: Agriculture Science.  In her spare time she enjoys playing basketball, and the outdoors.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because it’s new with a New FFA program and GREAT students.

James Cahill Arbizu--Orchestra

Formerly from Las Vegas, Nevada. H e attended school at Weber State and is currently BYU.  He has taught for the Lincoln Youth Symphony, WSU Youth Orchestra, Hobble Creek Elementary, Mapleton Elementary, and Provo School district Elementary Orchestra.  Subjects taught include:  Orchestra.  In his spare time he enjoys music, reading, outdoors/nature activities, playing and being silly with his kids.  He is most excited about Salem Hills High School because he is excited to come to Salem Hills to work with some of the best kids in the country, and to make some great music along the way.

Justin Bills--Choir

Formerly from Los Angeles, CA.  He attended school at BYU.  He has taught at The Music School, American Fork, and West Jordan High School.  Subjects taught include: Choir, Private Voice, Piano.  In his spare time he enjoys listening to music (of course!) and going to Disneyland.  He is most excited about Salem Hills High School because of the awesome students that are going to be there!  It’s a brand new facility with new traditions and legacies to be set.  The students at Salem Hills will be key in making that happen.

Troy Bohling--Assistant Principal

Formerly from Delta, Colorado.  He attended school at Otero Junior college, Western State, Mesa State, Utah State and BYU.  He has taught at Delta Junior High School, Cedaredge High School, Grand County High School, Springville High School, and Spanish Fork High School.  Subjects taught include: General Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, World History, Civics, US History, Psychology, Tennis, Baseball, and Basketball.  In his spare time he enjoys his family, sports, board games, woodworking, yard work and doing the dishes.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School because it’s a brand new school, new traditions, and challenges he hasn’t had before.

T.J. Brindley--P.E./ Wrestling

Formerly of Spanish Fork, Utah.  He attended school at UVSC.  He has taught at Navigator Pointe Academy.  Subjects taught include: Physical Education.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School because it’s a great opportunity to start a wrestling program and teach P.E. at Salem Hills.  It is going to be a lot of fun.  I am very excited to get started and contribute to the success of students and athletes.

Brenda Burr--Assistant Principal

Formerly from Las Vega, Nevada.  She attended school at the University of Central Oklahoma.  She has taught at Springville High School, Fairview School, and Summit Middle School.  Subjects taught include: AP Literature, AP Language, Creative Writing I and II, English 12 Applied, English 11, English 10, Accelerated English 10, Student Council, Cheer, English 8, English 8 Honors, 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Language Arts, 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Reading.  She is most excited about Salem Hills High School because she is thrilled to be part of forming traditions, and the making of history.

Cheri Campbell--American Sign Language

Formerly from Cairo, Egypt.  She attended school at BYU.  She has taught at Springville High School.  Subjects taught include: American Sign Language.  In her spare time she enjoys camping, reading, fishing, scrapbooking, and traveling.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because its brand new-tradition, faculty, excellent administration, and it is closer to home.

Paul Clark--Math

He grew up in Benjamin, Utah and attended school in Spanish Fork, graduating from Spanish Fork High School in 1970. He attended Snow College where he played football and baseball. Mr. Clark graduated from BYU in 1974 and recieved his master's degree from BYU in 1980. He has taught at Emery County, Spanish Fork, Orem, Spanish Fork again, and now Salem Hills High schools. This year will be his 35th year of teaching having taught math, physical education and athletics. In his spare time, he likes to play golf, fish and read.

Ivan Clarke--Math

Formerly from Tropic, Utah.  He attended school at BYU.  He has taught at Spanish Fork High School.  Subjects include: Math.  In his spare time he enjoys time with family and fishing.

Renae Clarke--Physical Education

Formerly from Peachtree City, Georgia.  She attended school at BYU.  She will begin her first year teaching at Salem Hills High School teaching P.E.  In her spare time she enjoys tennis, swimming, snowboarding, and reading.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because of her enthusiasm to start coaching and teaching.

Steve Downey-Spanish, Athletic Director

Formerly from Benjamin, Utah.  He attended school at BYU Hawaii, Snow, and BYU.  He has taught at Orem High School.  Subjects taught include: Spanish, P.E., Drivers ED, Coached-Football, Basketball, Track, Baseball, Golf.  In his spare time he enjoys golfing, fishing, high school sports, gardening, and spending time with his family.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School because it’s a new school, new traditions, great community support, and he enjoys working with high school students!

Annie Esplin--Counseling

Formerly from Cedar City, Utah.  She attended Southern Utah University.  She has taught at Independence High School, and Dixon Middle School.  Subjects taught include: Business (CTE), and Counselor.  In her spare time she enjoys snow skiing, running, biking, and Latin/Salsa dancing.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because she is excited to be at a High School.

Brad Fillmore--English, Girls' Golf, Boys' JV Golf

Formerly from Orem, Utah. He received his B.A & M.Ed. from BYU. He has taught at Spanish Fork High School for 13 years. Subjects taught include: English 10-12, Creative Writing, Basketball, & Golf. In his spare time he enjoys hanging out with his wife, Melanie, and their 3 children Grace (7), Spencer (5), and Parker (2). He is most excited about Salem Hills High School because he is thrilled to be teaching what he loves to kids who have unlimited potential.

Brad Geddes--Wood Working

He attended school at Utah State University, Yavapai, and BYU.  He has taught at Hillcrest High School.  Subjects taught include: Careers, Multimedia, and Woodshop.  In his spare time he enjoys outdoor activities.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School because to him this is the most excited experience, and how fun to be a part of a new school in a great area with good families.

Lee Gillie--Science

From Spanish Fork, Utah.  He attended school at Utah State University and BYU.  He has taught at Payson High School.  Subjects taught include: Chemistry and Biology.  In his spare time he enjoys soccer, snowboarding, reading, and being with his wife.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School because of the opportunity to improve himself as a teacher and help build new traditions and culture.

Brad L. Graham—Science

Formerly from Grandview, Washington. He attended Ricks College, Utah Valley State College, Utah State University, BYU, and University of Iowa. He has taught at Spanish Fork Middle School, Diamond Fork Junior High, and Utah Valley State College. Subjects taught include: Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Intro to German, German 1, Intro to College Algebra, and Baseball. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, swimming, biking, 4-wheeling, working on projects around the house, and fixing cars. He is most excited for Salem Hills High for the traditions, the start of a new high school, for more opportunities students will have to participate in all type of school activities.

Karl Hales--Math

IFormerly of Redmond, Utah. He attended Snow College, and Utah State. He taught at Payson Jr. for 11 years and at Spanish Fork High for ten years. He has taught US History, World Geography and most of the Math classes. He is married to Lisa. They have 4 children. He enjoys being with family, traveling, sports and the great outdoors. He and his family have lived in Salem for twenty years and he am very excited to work "at home" in Salem.

Scott Haney--Physical Education

Formerly from Henderson, Nevada.  He attended school at BYU and Southern Utah University.  He has taught at Payson High School.  Subjects taught include: P.E., Math, Resource, and Student Council.  In his spare time he enjoys skiing, watching reality shows, sports, camping, and reading.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School to being on the ground level of starting new traditions.

Laurie Hansen--Family & Consumer Science

Formerly form Syracuse, Utah.  She attended school at Ricks College and BYU.  She has taught at Davis High School, Green River High School, Carbon High School, and Mt. Nebo Junior High.  Subjects taught include: Foods, ProStart, Clothing, Adult Roles, Child Develop, and CTE Intro.  In her spare time she enjoys gardening and sewing.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because it’s a High School and a full-time position.

John Howden--Drafting/Engineering Design

Formerly from Reno, Nevada. He attended school at BYU. He has taught at Dixie High School and Payson High School. Subjects taught include: Technical drawing, architecture and Yearbook advisor. In his spare time he enjoys weight lifting, gardening, walking with his wife, and working on home projects. He is most excited for Salem Hills High School because his goal is to offer all students an exciting and excellent experience in drafting.

Bonnie Hunt-Drama/Film & Video

Formerly from Aurora, Colorado.  She attended school at BYU.  She has taught at Morgan High School, Morgan Middle School, and Springville High School (student teaching).  Subjects taught include: Film, Creative Writing, Musical Theatre, Theatre, Speech, and Technical Theatre.  In her spare time she enjoys snowboarding, reading, playing my guitar, dancing, sports, cooking, anything outside, going to the beach, traveling, and working out.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because "I think there will be a lot of opportunities for students and the school to really do great things and put on some great shows.  I’m excited to work with the students from the area because I’ve heard they’re great and there are a lot of resources close by."

Hollie Hunter--Math/Cheer

Formerly from Mapleton, Utah, she graduated from Springville High School in 2002. She attended BYU,was a member of their world renowned Ballroom Dance Tour Team, and graduated with a Mathematics Education major and Ballroom Dance minor in April 2008. This is her first year teaching math and coaching cheer. In her spare time she enjoys being with her family, dancing, reading, boating, camping, eating ice cream, and solving Sudoku puzzles. She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because this is her first year teaching and because of the support the community has shown and the excitement that is surrounding the beginning of new traditions and high standards.

Ralph Jamsa--Counseling, Boys' Tennis

Formerly from Lakota, North Dakota.  He attended school at North Dakota State.  He has taught at West Fargo High School, Lakeridge Junior High, Spanish Fork Intermediate School, Spanish Fork High School, UVSC, and University of Phoenix.  Subjects taught include: US History, Social Psychology, World Studies, Personality Theory, and Development through the lifespan.  In his spare time he enjoys playing guitar, singing, tennis, jogging, swimming, and biking.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School to be a part of a great school and outstanding community.

Terry Krieger-James--English

Formerly from Ukiah, California and San Diego, California.  She attended school at BYU.  She has taught at Spanish Fork Middle School and Springville High School.  Subjects taught include: English 10, 11, 12, Honors English 10, 11, AP Language, Newspaper, and English 6th and 7th grade.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, spending time with grandchildren, camping, and beginning to train for a marathon.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because she is eager to work with new students and staff to build a new school community.

Holly Kuester--Family & Consumer Science

From Payson, Utah. She attended school at BYU. She has taught at Roosevelt Junior, Glendale Middle and Payson High School. Subjects taught include: TLC, Life Management, SFA Reading, and Adult Roles and Finacial Literacy. In her spare time she enjoys being with her family. She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because she will have her own room and AC!

Mike Larsen-Band

Formerly from Ephraim, Utah.  He attended school at Snow College, and The University of North Texas.  He has taught at Newman Smith High School, and Ted Polk Middle School.  Subjects taught include: Band.  In his spare time he enjoys racquetball, movies, reading, photography, and traveling.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School because it’s a chance to build a program from the ground up.  WE have the possibility of creating a strong culture of musical excellence at Salem Hills.  I really believe that we have the opportunity and potential to become one of the best band programs around.

Mong-Hoa LeBras-Resource

Hoa was born in Viet-Nam and came to BYU in 1967. She graduated from BYU in 1971,1973,1989, 1993 with ASs in Library and Business Technologies; BS in Business Management and teaching certificates in Elementary and Special Eds. She also has finished endorsements in ESL, French, Math.(level 2), and Computer Literacy. She also finished an Equivalent to Master degree and completed more than 300 credits from BYU and still loves to take more classes whenever possible. Hoa is married to Yvon LeBras who is teaching French at BYU and is a loving mom of 6 BYU graduates and 5 lovely grand-daughters and one grandson (coming in April, 05). She started teaching at SFHS since 1993, loves her students a lot.

Danny Lundell--Counseling

Formerly from Payson.  He attended school at Utah State University.  He has taught at Payson High School, Mapleton Elementary, and Rees Elementary.  Subjects taught include: Counseling.  In his spare time he enjoys swimming, yard work, farming, reading, and traveling.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School to start a new program, start at a new school, a challenge and adventure.

Pam Lyman--Science

From Salem, Utah.  She attended school at Utah State University.  She has taught at North Davis Junior High, and Spanish Fork High School.  Subjects taught include: Biology, Medical Anatomy and Physiology.  In her spare time she enjoys biking, hiking, camping, and reading.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because of the creating of community spirit with new traditions.

Eric Macdonald--Spanish

Formerly from Mesa, Arizona.  He attended school at BYU and Arizona State University.  He has taught at San Jacinto High School and Springville High School.  Subjects taught include: Spanish.  In his spare time he enjoys road biking, camping, reading, gardening, and horses. 

Koriane Maughan--English, Drill

From Salem, Utah.  She attended school at Utah Valley State College.  She has taught at Lehi High School and Mountain View High School.  Subjects taught include: English and Math tutor, and Dance.  In her spare time she enjoys dance and all outdoor activities.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because it is a brand new school and she is very excited to start a new drill team and create fun traditions.

Monte Morgan--Exercise Science & Sports Medicine/ Football

Formerly from Sanford, CO.  He attended school at Snow College, and Adams State College.  He has taught at Monte Vista Junior High, Monte vista High School, Wasatch High School, and Lone Peak high School.  Subjects taught include: Racquetball, Gardening, Reading, and Hiking.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School because he is looking forward to the enthusiasm of beginning new programs at a new school.  We all have the opportunity to create the attitude to be successful.  The enthusiasm and positive attitude of young people is contagious and I love to be around that attitude.

April Oostveen--Resource

Born and raised in Spanish Fork, she now reside in Nephi.  April attended UVSC and then transferred to USU to complete her studies and obtained her degree in Special Education.  She has taught English 10, US Government & Citizenship, World History,  Resource Math, and Study Skills.  She loves to play billiards and is quite competitive; sh enjoys spending time with her family camping, fishing, and 4-wheeling whenever they get the chance, and she will give any sport a chance to watch or participate in. April also likes to read, scrapbook, sew, and crochet.  She is excited to be a part of a new beginning as a SKYHAWK. As a new teacher she is excited to have a permanent "home".  Finally, April has met many of the new teachers, faculty, staff, and incredible students and is excited to be surrounded by all of these truly great people each day.  SKYHAWKS ROCK!

Karla K. Palfreyman--Dance

From Springville Utah currently of Woodland Hills. Graduated with Bachelors of Science Degree from Southern Utah  University. Graduated with a Masters of Education Degree from University of Phoenix.  Taught dance and social science for 14 years at Springville High School.  She enjoys being with her family. She enjoys the mountains and endurance horse back riding.  She is excited to teach at a brand new high school, to meet new people and to start new traditions.

Josie Reynaud--Information Technology

Formerly from Fairview, Utah. She attended Southern Utah University and received a degree in Business Education/Computer Information Systems with an emphasis in Administrative Support. She has taught at Kearns High, Independence High, and Payson High. Subjects taught include: Keyboarding, Computer Technology, Word Processing, Office Procedures, Business Communications, Multimedia, Business Web Page Design, and Financial Literacy. In her spare time she enjoys reading, scrapbooking, card making, geocaching, and being with her kids. She is so excited to teach at Salem Hills High because of the high-tech facilities and her children will attend here in the future.

Brad Shuler--Science

Brad grew up and live in Elk Ridge and received degrees from BYU and Montana State University. His first teaching assignment was at American Fork High where he taught for five years. The last eleven years, he has taught at Lone Peak High. The courses he has taught are: Biology, Human Biology, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, Physiology, Zoology, Botany, Physical Earth Science. Brad is married and has five wonderfully entertaining children. Besides his family life, these are a few of his favorite things: fishing, playing the guitar, basketball, golfing, BYU football, the Utah Jazz, anything Italian. He is very glad to be here at Salem Hills High and hopes to help build a great school tradition. Go Skyhawks!

Sarah Shuler--Art

From Elk Ridge, Utah.  She attended school at BYU.  She has taught at Barnett Elementary, Pleasant Grove High, and Payson High School.  Subjects taught include: Art, 3-D Design, Sculpture, and English.  In her spare time she enjoys anything involved with art, painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, illustration, camping, hiking, and anything outdoors.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because of the color blue, building new traditions, and using new ideas.

Sande Strange--English/Social Studies

Formerly from Oakland, Chico, and San Mateo, California.  She attended school at BYU.  She has taught at BYU, American Fork High School, Lehi High School, Springville High School, and Spanish Fork Junior High School.  Subjects taught include: English 9-12, Accelerated 9-11, College Writing, Creative Writing, US History 8,11, AP European History, Geography, and Yearbook .  In her spare time she enjoys reading, traveling, shopping, and garage-saling.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because it is a new school, new equipment, exciting peers, and a whole new student body to motivate.

Christine Thomas--Work Based Learning

From Payson, Spring Lake.  She has taught at Spanish Fork High School.  Subjects taught include: Work-based Learning.  In her spare time she enjoys reading and cooking.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because her children will also be attending the school.

Bart Thompson--Social Studies

Formerly from Plain City, Utah.  He attended school at BYU and Southern Utah University.  He has taught at Spanish Fork Middle School, and Spanish Fork High School.  Subjects taught include: Utah History, 6th grade Social Studies, World Civilizations, US Studies, Geography, Psychology, AP Psychology and US Government.  In his spare time he enjoys fly fishing, running, mountain biking, reading, camping, hiking, and traveling.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School for the opportunity to start new traditions, have new facilities, equipment, and build SKYHAWK PRIDE!

Karl Ward-Girls' Tennis

Formerly from Lakewood, CA.  He attended school at BYU and the University of Phoenix.  He has taught at Springville High School, Payson High School, and Lakewood High School.  Subjects taught include: Tennis and Seminary.  In his spare time he enjoys tennis, volleyball, golf, reading, music, piano, traveling, ping pong, racquetball, computer cames, and PlayStation2.  He is most excited for Salem Hills High School because some of the payers on the Payson High School girls tennis team were concerned about the program at Salem Hills and asked me to come over and help out.  I enjoy teaching and love tennis.

Shaun Ward -- Campus Supervisor

From Payson, Utah. He attended Weber State University Police Academy. He has worked for Payson Police Department, Orem Police Department, Springville and Spanish Fork High Schools as a Campus Supervisor. In his spare time he enjoys Boating, Camping and all types of outdoor activities with his family.

Shauna Whittekiend--Business

Formerly from Idaho, Utah.  She attended school at Southern Utah University.  She has taught at Spanish Fork Junior High School and Spanish Fork High School.  Subjects taught include: Entrepreneurship, TLC, Yearbook, Keyboarding, Web Page Design, Desktop Publishing, Business Communications, and Computer Technology.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, photography, being outdoors and playing with her kids.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because it will be refreshing to be in a new facility and an adventure to be a part of building a business program and establishing new traditions.

Shannon Williams--Resource

Formerly from Arizona.  She attended school at Ricks College and Arizona State.  She has taught at Spanish Fork Middle/Intermediate School, Spanish Fork High School, and Utah School for the Deaf and Blind.  Subjects taught include: Math, English, and Social Studies.  In her spare time she enjoys traveling with family, camping, family history, and web page design.  She is most excited for Salem Hills High School because she is “excited to teach in the community I live in.”
