SCIENCE

Science courses are grouped into four categories:
Group 1 Earth Systems
Group 2: Physics: Science & Technology, Physics, AP Physics
Group 3: Chemistry, A.P. Chemistry
Group 4: Biology, Physiology(Human Biology), Biology-Agricultural Science and Technology, A.P. Biology

The minimum graduation requirement is 2.0 units of credit which must come from two different groups. However, most universities and some colleges REQUIRE 3.0 credits in science.

36003EARTH SYSTEMS- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

36004This class will fulfill a state science core requirement in Group 1. The study of Earth Systems will help you understand the many natural processes occurring around you. The class will also explore other worlds and objects in the universe. (Grades 10,11,12)

86363PHYSICS: SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

86364This is a very basic physics course. This course is involved with the question of just how things work. The student will study physical and electrical systems and perform interesting physical experiments. This is a course that gives the student both a science credit and an opportunity for concurrent enrollment. (Grades 11,12)

36403PHYSICS- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

36404An introduction to the mechanical nature of the universe and the study of heat, sound, light, and energy (electrical, atomic, nuclear). Prerequisite: students must have completed a course in Geometry to take Physics. (Grades 10,11,12)

36503ADVANCED PLACEMENT PHYSICS- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

36504This class is a college level mathematics oriented physics class. It is a course which prepares the student for the AP Physics exam in May. Prerequisite: enrollment in AP Calculus.

36203CHEMISTRY- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

36204A general introduction to chemistry. Includes study of matter, use of laboratory equipment, and chemistry related mathematics. This class will meet the Utah State Core Curriculum requirements for chemistry. Prerequisite: students must have completed Elementary Algebra. (Grades 10,11,12)

36353ADVANCED PLACEMENT CHEMISTRY- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

36354AP Chemistry is a college level mathematics-oriented chemistry class. It involves the detailed study of chemistry with added emphasis on mathematics. This class prepares the student for the AP Chemistry exam in May. Prerequisite: General Chemistry is recommended but not required. (Grades 10,11,12)

35203BIOLOGY- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

35204A general introductory science course that studies the Life Sciences. We will study the biochemical, cellular, genetic, structural and ecological aspects of life. This class will meet the Utah State Core Curriculum requirements for biological science. (Grades 10,11,12)

35403ADVANCED PLACEMENT BIOLOGY- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credits)

35404If you desire to be successful in college, this course will prepare you. The development of your academic abilities is a major emphasis of this class. You will develop critical thinking skills, concept discernment skills, group interaction skills, exam taking skills, self discipline and the enhancement of your scholastic abilities. A little biology will be added for good measure, to help you develop those skills. The exercises used are both challenging and fun. Students who pass the national A.P. Biology examination can earn eight semester hours of college credit. Prerequisite: A strong desire for self-improvement and to prepare for college level work. (Grades 10,11,12)

38003MEDICAL ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

38004Anatomy is the study of structure. Students will learn from hands on activities, the bones, muscles, nerves and other organ systems. Physiology is the study of function. Students will learn how the systems work, and function as parts of the living organizm. Discussions will also include clinical studies of diseases. This course is designed for students who have an interest in a medical career or in studying the human body. Completion of this course will be excellent preparation for more advanced courses such as A.P. Biology and anatomy classes in college. Prerequisite: Biology. (Grades 10,11,12)

81663BIOLOGY - AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY- (2 Semester -1.0 credit)

81664This course is designed to teach the basic principles of biology as they apply to agriculture. Students will explore biology as it relates to cells, animal science, plant science, ecology, and natural resources. Exploration will include hands-on demonstrations and laboratory experiences. Students will also gain leadership skills through principles of the FFA. FFA membership is not required, but is encouraged.
