PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The graduation requirement is 2.0 units of credit which must include Fitness, Health, and Participation Skills. 9th grade PE is a Participation Skills class.
72102DANCE I- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
A dance class for the beginning to intermediate student designed to develop concepts of modern dance with some basics of ballet and jazz included. Students will explore principles of time, space, energy and motion. Proper alignment and technique will be concentrated on providing a good background in dance. Students will have an opportunity to perform at the end of the semester. A minimal fee is necessary for a class costume. Dance clothing required. This course will help fill P.E. or Fine Arts requirements. (Grades 10,11,12)
72152DANCE 2- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
This class is a continuation of Dance 1 focusing primarily on skills of modern dance and jazz. Elements of choreography will be explored along with the basic history of dance. Projection and performance skills will also be focused on. Students will have a performance opportunity. A minimal fee is necessary for a class costume. Dance clothing required. Prerequisite: Dance 1 or TEACHER APPROVAL. This course will help fill P.E. or Fine Arts requirements. (Grades 10,11,12)
72202DANCE 3- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
This class is designed for those students who are excelling at an intermediate to advanced level. Successful completion of dance 1 & 2 is recommended. Students will be working toward a performance level and will participate in the spring dance concert. Dance clothing required. There will be a costume expense of approximately $75. This course will help fill P.E. or Fine Arts requirements. TEACHER APPROVAL REQUIRED. (Grades 10,11,12)
72702DANCE AND DRILL- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
A class to develop fundamental skills in various marching styles, military movement, jazz dance and drill downs. The class will be given the opportunity to perform at JV half times. (If the student chooses to perform, a small fee will be required for a class uniform- approx. $20.00). This course will help fill P.E. or Fine Arts requirements. (Grades 10,11,12)
72753DRILL TEAM- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)
72754A class for students who have TRIED OUT AND MADE THE HIGH SCHOOL DRILL TEAM. Students attend all games, perform at halftime, and must maintain a GPA of 3.0. There is a fee involved of approximately $600.00 for new members and $450 for 2nd year members. Practice outside regular school hours is required. This course will help fill P.E. or Fine Arts requirements. (Grades 11,12)

79004This course is for students who have been selected as cheerleaders for next year. Other students may not register for this class.
72353DANCE COMPANY (ADVANCED DANCE)- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)
72354This class is a performance class. Students work and develop their own choreography towards performance level as well as learn advanced technique. This class combines modern dance, jazz and ballet. Dance clothing required. There will be a required assessment of $175 to cover costumes for the spring concert and other miscellaneous expenses. A coed class designed to teach students the various styles of dance used in a social function setting. The waltz, cha-cha, swing, country/western, funky dance and line dance styles will be taught along with social dance etiquette. This course will help fill P.E. requirements. (Grades 10,11,12)

A coed class for students who have successfully completed Social Dance I. This class will continue with a higher level of all dance styles and have performance opportunities. A small fee might be assessed for those who perform. TEACHER APPROVAL IS REQUIRED. (Grades 11,12)
77102FITNESS FOR LIFE - BOYS- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
This class is required for all 10th grade boys. It entails basic conditioning and the related principles and concepts. Each class will begin with a flexibility routine. Then an extensive cardiovascular routine will follow. Tests will be given in push-ups, sit-ups, timed running, flexibility and vertical jump. Other P.E. classes do not fill the state requirement for Fitness. (Grade 10)
77152FITNESS FOR LIFE - GIRLS- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
This one semester class is required for all 10th grade girls. Students will study elements of nutrition, exercise and healthy lifestyle. They will also participate in physical activities and games and will develop a personal fitness plan. Other P.E. classes do not fill the state requirement for Fitness. (Grade 10)
71502HEALTH- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
This course will teach first aid, personal health and the effects of alcohol, tobacco and drugs on the body. It is recommended that this course be taken in the sophomore year. (Grades 10,11,12)
83503HEALTH SCIENCE TECH - (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)
83504This class is highly recommended for those individuals interested in a medical career. This course will cover such topics as: medical terminology, first aid, sports medicine, nursing, pharmacy, medicine, reproduc, death education, physical therapy, and dental assisting. Students will also have the opportunity to spend out of class time in some of these professions. A fun and exciting class. (Grades 10,11,12)
76202FITNESS - JOGGING- (1 Semester- 0.5 Credit)
This course is offered in the 1st Semester. It is designed for students who like to run as a preparation for competition or just for good health and physical fitness. Cross-country and track athletes are especially invited to enroll. Emphasis will be on stretching and cardiac conditioning, running, and sports preparation. Open to boys or girls. (Grades 10,11,12)
76212FITNESS WALKING - GIRLS- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
Bring your walkman, your MP3 player, your ipod and join in. This course is offered for those who would like to walk for fitness, firm up, lose weight, or just get into better shape all around. Feel good about yourself while you get in better shape. You will notice that you will start sleeping better, feeling better and finding more energy with exercise.
75002WEIGHT TRAINING- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
This class will provide basic to advanced lifters the opportunity to enhance body tone, strength and endurance. Each class will begin with stretching and warm up exercises. Each class will end with a cool down routine. Basic lifting programs will be provided by the instructor. Open to boys and girls. Grades will be determined by attendance, dress, and participation. (Grades 10,11,12)
72652AEROBIC CONDITIONING- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
This course is open to both boys and girls. Students will be taught principles of aerobic conditioning. There will be some emphasis on the exercise component of healthy weight control. Students will participate in a rigorous exercise program. (Grades 10,11,12)
76402INDIVIDUALIZED LIFETIME ACTIVITIES- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
This course is designed to offer more in-depth instruction in up to three different lifetime activities. The curriculum emphasizes individual or dual activities. TEAM SPORTS ARE NOT EMPHASIZED. Activities which may be included are: golf, archery, bowling, weight training and conditioning, aerobics, walking, jogging, climbing, social dance, disc golf, tennis, disc football (with no more than six members per team), in-line skating, biking, fishing, martial arts, and aquatics. Physical fitness and proper nutrition are emphasized as necessary for maintaining good health throughout life, and physical activity is taught as a means of reducing stress. Assigned reading and writing assignments, which include activity journals and/or portfolios are part of the class. (Grades 10,11,12)
76452ADVANCED PARTICIPATION SKILLS- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
This course fulfills one P.E. requirement for high school graduation. Individual, dual and team sports activities are included to develop competency in up to five different activities. Activities which may be included are: golf, archery, bowling, weight training and conditioning, aerobics, walking, jogging, social dance, rope jumping, disc golf, disc football, in-line skating, biking, fishing, martial arts, and aquatics. Students will develop journals illustrating their participation in and out of class, and will also participate in fitness testing to measure improvement.
73603ADVANCED CONDITIONING (FALL SEMESTER)- (1 Semester – 0.5 Credit)
73604ADVANCED CONDITIONING (sPRING SEMESTER)- (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit)
This class is designed to be a fitness class for the serious athlete. The class will include strength training, speed development, explosiveness drills, agility development and other sport specific drills. This class will go beyond the fitness requirements as outlined by the state core curriculum in the following areas: cardiovascular, flexibility, strength, endurance, and weight control. The students will reach optimal levels of physical fitness to perform in competitive athletics. Prerequisite: Approval from the instructor and recommendation from Varsity Coach. (Grades 10,11,12)
