The graduation requirement for all students is 1.0 unit of vocational credit. Students with career plans or an interest in vocational areas should take additional courses.

AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

81503ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

81504An instructional course that generally prepares individuals to produce, process, and market plants, shrubs, and trees used principally for ornamental, recreational, and aesthetic purposes and to establish, maintain, and manage horticultural enterprises such as arboculture, floriculture, greenhouse operation and management, landscaping, nursery operation and management, and turf management. Includes instruction in machinery and equipment necessary for each horticultural enterprise. Students are required to provide transportation to work sites off campus. (Grades 10,11,12)

81512ADVANCED HORTICULTURE- (1 Semester - 0.5 credits)

Advanced instruction and practical experience for those students who successfully completed Ornamental Horticulture. (Grades 11,12)

81723 BEGINNING ANIMAL SCIENCE- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

81724Students will gain a general knowledge of the structure of domestic animals and will view the animal industry as a whole. Topics of instruction will include animal systems, diseases, processing, and maintenance. The class is designed to prepare students for the advanced animal science course. Students will also gain leadership experience through the FFA. FFA membership is not required but is strongly encouraged. (Grades 10, 11, 12)

81543ADVANCED ANIMAL SCIENCE- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

81544Students will take an in depth look at the systems, behavior, and management of domestic animals. The course will include several handson lab experiences and will allow students to practice the skills that they learn. Class will also include a broad look at the animal industry for the production of food and fiber. This class will help students who are planning on pursuing a career working with animals. Students will gain leadership experience through the FFA. FFA membership is not required, but is encouraged. Prerequisite: Beg. Animal Science. (Grades 11 & 12)

81663BIOLOGY - AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY-(2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

81664This course is designed to teach the basic principles of biology as they apply to agriculture. Students will explore biology as it relates to cells, animal science, plant science, ecology, and natural resources. Exploration will include hands-on demonstrations and laboratory experiences. Students will also gain leadership skills through principles of the FFA. FFA membership is not required, but is encouraged. (Grades 10, 11, 12)

81853NATURAL RESOURCES- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

81854Students will take an analytical approach to the management of wildlife in the Rocky Mountain region. Instruction will include subjects such as fish management, waterfowl and upland game birds, predator animals, and large game animals. The proper care and management through habitat control, hunting, and reintroduction will be discussed. Students are strongly encouraged to have a large interest in wildlife if registering for this class. Students are also encouraged to join the FFA through this course. Prerequisite: Biology or Biology: Ag. Sci. & Technology. (Grades 10, 11, 12)

81653HORSE MANAGEMENT- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

81654This course is designed to give an in depth understanding of the equine industry. Students will cover topics including history of the horse, equine diseases and prevention, horse breeds and uses, equine reproduction, and equine management. The class will allow for several demonstrations in the school animal lab, and will allow students to gain practical experience with horses. Students will also gain leadership experience through the FFA. FFA membership is encouraged but not required. Prerequisite: Biology or Animal Science. (Grades 10, 11, 12)

88513WELDING TECH 1- (1 Semester 0.5 Credit, 2 Semesters 1.0 Credit)

88514First semester, learn arc welding, MIG welding, oxy-acetylene welding and cutting. Second semester, learn to build a project using skills developed in first semester. This class is a prerequisite of Auto body. (Grades 10,11,12)

88523WELDING TECH 2– (1 Semester - 0.5 Credit or 2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

88524First semester, learn advanced arc welding, MIG welding, oxy-acetylene welding and cutting. Second semester, learn to build a project. (Grades 10,11,12)

88533WELDING TECH 3- (2 Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

88534This course will cover advanced procedures in arc welding, MIG welding, oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, and use of tools and equipment. Projects will be built. Students must pay for the cost of personal projects. Prerequisite: Welding Tech 2. Concurrent Enrollment credit available -- Class will cover all welding course requirements for UVSC Welding 1100. (Grades 11,12)

81123AGRICULTURE SYSTEMS TECH 1- (2Semesters - 1.0 Credit)

81124Students will learn basic skills related to the mechanical activities involved with agricultural production and service. Instruction includes field and laboratory application of the concepts taught. Students will develop skills in the areas of working hot and cold metal, tool reconditioning, plumbing, painting, bill of materials, small gas engines, and basic welding. Emphasis will be placed on safety and proper use of tools and equipment.
