REGION ACTIVITY CHAIRPERSON: Troy Bohling Spanish Fork High School (Phone) 798-4060 (Fax) 798-0483
1. Starting Date: August 6, 2007 is starting practice and team selection. August 16, 2007 is when first varsity match may be held.
2. Region Scheduling: By UHSAA guidelines, the maximum number of matches is fourteen (14) and two (2) tournaments. Tournament guidelines are listed in the State Handbook. Region games will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
3. Games/Start Times: Varsity 6:30 p.m. Junior Varsity 5:15 p.m. Sophomores 4:00 p.m. Warm-up prior to the games will be minimum of: 5 minutes for general warm-up, followed by 4 minutes (visiting team) 4 minutes (home team) 2 minutes (serving - both teams) Admission to be charged at all Sophomore, JV and Varsity games.
4. Change of Date or Time: Any changes must be approved by Board of Managers after mutual consent is reached between the concerned schools. Change of date should be approved at least (1) one week prior to the proposed date. The requesting school will notify the state arbiter of the change and pay the $50.00 fee for the change.
5. Coaches Meetings: Coaches will communicate with one another on at least (2) two occasions. All coaches meetings will take place during non-contract times.
6. Rosters: Send schedules and team rosters by the first Thursday in September, September 6, 2007, to all coaches and to the region chairperson. Rosters shall contain the name, grade level, height and jersey number.
7. State Tournament entries will be determined by the win/loss record in Region play. In the event of a tie between teams qualified for state tournament positions (the inter region play-in game is considered a seed for the state tournament). The seed will be determined by the following guidelines:
a. Win/loss record between the two teams involved. b. If they split, the higher seed will be given to the team who won the most games in that head to head competition. c. If there is still a tie at this point, the seed will be determined by head to head records against the team with the highest finish (Region Champion on down). d. If the tie is STILL not broken by this procedure, teams will conduct a coin toss to determine seeding.
8. Coin toss procedure: A representative from each of the involved schools and the Region representative over the activity or his/her designee must be present. In the case of two teams, one coin is flipped by the Region representative after one school has called a side. The winner of the flip gets the higher seed. In the case of three schools, each school’s representative flips a coin simultaneously until an "odd" outcome is determined (one coin NOT matching the other two). The "odd" school gets the highest seed and the remaining two teams conduct a two team coin flip to determine remaining seeds.
9. In the event of any tie that would determine entry or non entry to the tournament, play offs will be held with the following guidelines:
a. If there is a tie between two teams with one available tournament slot, they will play a full match with the winner earning the tournament entry. A neutral site will be appointed the site of play by the Region representative. b. If there are three teams tied for one available tournament entry slot, a three way coin flip will be held. The "odd" team will have a bye and the other two teams will play a best 2/3 game match. The winner of that game will play the bye team a best 2/3 game match. Games one and two will be played to 25 (no cap) and game three will be played to 15 (no cap). The winner of that game will then get the tournament entry slot. c. If there are three teams tied for two available slots, (the inter region play in game is considered a seed for the state tournament). There will be a three way coin flip; "odd" team gets the lower seed (lowest in number: 2 being lower than 3, 3 being lower than 4); the other two teams play for the remaining state tournament seed. d. In the event of a tie involving more than three teams, the Region Board of Managers will determine an acceptable tie breaking procedure.
10. All Region team: There will be fifteen (15) players (1 MVP, 2 liberos and/or defensive specialists and 12 players) voted upon by mutual agreement from the Region coaches. Coaches are asked to nominate their OWN players for discussion and a formal vote will be taken upon completion of that debate. During the vote, coaches will NOT be allowed to vote for their own players. This meeting will take place on the first Monday after the regular season play ends. The coaches will also nominate varsity players for Academic All Region who have a 3.7 G.P.A. or higher.
11. Matches: * Games 1-4 shall be played to 25 points (no cap) * Fifth game shall be played to 15 points (no cap) * Each team shall be allowed two (2) time-outs per game
All JV/Sophomore matches shall be best three (3) out of five (5) - rally scoring * Games 1-2 shall be played to 25 points with a cap of 27 * Games 3-5 shall be played to 15 points with a cap of 17 * Each team will get two (2) timeouts in games 1-2, but one (1) in games 3-5
13. The host school will control warm up music if used.
14. The National Anthem or Pledge of Allegiance is also encouraged at home games.
15. FINAL VARSITY GAME PROCEDURES: If your school honors its seniors and parents at the final home game of the season, PLEASE honor seniors and parents before the team warm ups begin. Both schools will warm up, followed by "honor night" (The host school shall have a place reserved for the visiting team during this time upon request), then both teams will serve. Announce both teams and begin play. Total time for honoring seniors should be no more than 5 minutes.
