REGION ACTIVITY CHAIRPERSON: Doug Webb (Boys) & Carolyn Merrill (Girls) Doug - Lehi High School (Phone) 768-7000 (Fax) 768-7007
1. Region IV adopts the USTA Code of Ethics. Coaches are encouraged to work with individual players to comply with this code.
2. Coaching at matches and tournaments is permitted after each set for a maximum of two minutes. No one other than official team coaches may talk to players during matches. A maximum of two designated coaches, school sponsored, can coach the players.
3. Players will be permitted a 10 minute warm-up at the beginning of each match.
4. The Region IV Team Champion will be determined by the results from Region IV dual matches played during the season. If two teams have an identical region dual record the tie breaker will be in the following order: head to head duals, results against the next highest placer.
5. High school tennis players must compete in a minimum of five Region IV matches during the high school season in order to compete at the region meet. This includes matches at the varsity or junior varsity level and in the singles or doubles category. Injury or special situations will be considered but must be approved by UHSAA staff prior to the student athlete participating in the region meet.
6. Medals will be awarded to the top three places at the region tournament.
7. Starting time for tennis matches will be at 3:30 p.m.
8. All region matches will be played on the date scheduled. (This will be subject to weather and court conditions). The host coach will be responsible for contacting the visiting coach by 1:00 p.m. on the day of the scheduled match if playing conditions are questionable.
9. Each team is expected to participate in a JV schedule. The matches will be held the same day and place as the varsity matches. The visiting team will call to verify that they will bring a JV team. The JV will play an 8 game pro-set.
10. The home team will provide the tennis balls (championship balls) for the match.
11. Coaches will provide a written line-up of players by position as they arrive for all dual meets.
12. Each team should have proper tennis attire. This should include school identification that can be by letter or name. Teammates must wear the same style and color of shirt. Full team uniforms are required for state and region tournaments.
13. Each school’s best player must play either #1 singles or #1 doubles. The #1 singles player must be better than the #2 singles player and so on.
14. Each team is allowed to play in (14) meets plus the region and state tournaments. (A one-day tournament will count as one meet and a two-day tournament will count as two meets).
15. A twelve point tie breaker will be used for dual matches and the region tournament.
16. The region tournament will determine state qualifiers and their positions.
17. Seeding for the region tournament will be based on the number of wins an individual player has at a specific position. (In exceptional circumstances the seeding at a particular position will be based on the recommendations of the majority of the coaches at the seeding meeting, regardless of number of wins). |
