4.           TIE BREAKING PROCEDURES:

The region will follow the state guidelines for both Play and Individual Event competitions as printed in the current edition of the UHSAA Handbook.   At the region level the three ballots of each entry in a tie will be broken in the following manner:

First:  All boxes of “Superior, Excellent, Good and Fair” will be tabulated and the entry or play with the most “Superior” boxes and/or the highest  rating will win the tie.

Second: If all the boxes remain tied, the break will be done by using the judges’ preferences.   The entry that obtains a majority preference will win the tie.

Example: A score compiled with a 2 Superior + 1 Superior + 5 Superior beats a 2 Superior, 3 Superior; 3 Superior because a 1 outranks a 5

Third: If all boxes and judges’ preferences remain tied, a run-off will be provided as soon as possible in front of a panel of three judges.

5.           JUDGES:

Qualified judges may be selected from the community.  “Qualified” is defined as adults who have experience and or training in theater arts.  Alumni of any teacher and or school participating in the competition may judge if he or she has been graduated for a minimum of four years and does not have a relation with anyone on any of the current teams.  Parents of any student competing may not judge.  (Subject to change by UHSAA Board of Trustees).

6.           MEETINGS:

All region drama teachers will meet at least one month prior to the Region IV drama competitions to discuss judges, starting times, qualifying and any other business deemed necessary.  These meetings can take place via email when necessary.
