The Arts at Rees Elementary
Rees has a rich history in teaching the four fine arts: dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. We began writing grants to the Utah Arts Council in 1992 and have received over $60,000 dollars to bring artists to our school, train teachers, buy art supplies, and teach the arts to our students. The Utah Arts Council and the Utah State Office of Education uses Rees as an exemplary model for a quality arts program.
Each grade is responsible for making sure their students receive the four art forms as stated in the state core. How that looks is different for each team. Rees has brought in a dance teacher for the Kindergarten team for the last 4 years. The Kindergarten teachers teach the other 3 art forms. In the multi-age team each student rotates through the teachers (including Mrs. Snyder, the older grade autistic unit teacher) and they get 40 minutes of art 4 days a week. Rees teachers also try to integrate the arts into other subjects whenever possible.
Another huge part of our arts program is when we bring in professional artists each year. Over the years we have had a wide variety of artists who have created incredible experiences for our students. There is always a family arts night as part of this grand experience.
