KSL Radio and Zions Bank honored Alisa Morgan, a kindergarten teacher at Art City Elementary School in Springville, for the "Teacher Feature" program this week. This program was developed to recognize outstanding teachers who have gone the extra mile, not only in the classroom, but who have also made a significant impact on many young lives.

Title I Preschool Screenings April 29 & May 6

Title I Preschool Screenings
Each year, Nebo School District offers free screenings for children ages 3 and 4 (very limited 3 year old spots) who live within Title 1 school catchment areas to apply for preschool.  Preschool is offered free of charge but parents are expected to volunteer in the classroom each month.  The preschool age child must be 3 or 4 years old by September 1, 2011.  Please call your school to make an appointment.

Nebo School District Receives Prestigious Award

Nebo School District was presented the Innovators in Education Award by Weidenhammer Systems Corporation at their National Annual Users Conference on March 22, 2011. The award recognizes the most outstanding school district from across the nation that contributed the most to public education using Weidenhammer technology. The award was presented by President and CEO John Weidenhammer of Weidenhammer Systems Corporation.

Nebo School District Elementary Debate

On March 3, 2011, 77 fifth- and sixth-grade students came to Hobble Creek Elementary after school to debate the issue: "Resolved: the State of Utah Should Require All State Government Buildings to Have a Renewable Energy Source as a Significant Part of Their Total Energy Use."

The Elementary debate in Utah is sponsored by the National Energy Foundation. The state debate meet will be April 28 and 29 at Skyline High School in Salt Lake City. Debate provides an excellent opportunity for students to use their skills of reading, thinking, writing, speaking, and listening.

Kristen Betts Newly Elected School Board Member

Kristen Betts, a newly elected board member on the Nebo School Board of Education, won her seat in the Mapleton area that includes portions of Springville, Covered Bridge, and Spanish Fork. Kristen fills Collin Allan’s seat. Collin did not run again after serving for 30 years on the Nebo School Board of Education.

Mrs. Betts is a former teacher of Advanced Placement (AP) US History and AP Psychology. She is currently an academic advisor at Brigham Young University.

Cory Green, MMHS Girls' Basketball Coach, is selected as 4A Coach of the Year by the Salt Lake Tribune.

Maple Mountain High School (MMHS) is in its second year of existence. Coach Cory Green coached the girls’ basketball team to the semifinals with no graduating seniors stated the Salt Lake Tribune.

The Salt Lake Tribune Announces Girls’ Basketball MVPs

The Salt Lake Tribune announces girls’ basketball MVPs. MVP for 4A is Forward, Lexi Eaton dominating at Springville High. Lexi is a senior and led the scoring with an average of 29 points a game.

First Team for 4A lists Forward, Mackenzie Nielson, a senior at Springville High and Center, Lyssa Hanks, a junior at Salem Hills High.

Second Team for 4A lists Guard, Aleksa Gappmayer, a sophomore at Maple Mountain High.

The Nebo Education Foundation awards grants for March 2011

The Nebo Education Foundation awards grants for March 2011.

These grants are funded through the fund-raising efforts of the Nebo Education Foundation board and donations from individuals and businesses that support students and public education. One fund-raising effort is the annual "Green Fever" golf tournament that helps fund these various grants throughout the year. The "Green Fever" golf tournament will be held on Friday, May 6, at the Spanish Oaks Golf course.
