Lynn Mecham was appointed by the Nebo Board of Education as the Assistant Principal of Springville High.

Lynn Mecham received his bachelor’s degree elementary education from Brigham Young University, and his master’s in Educational Counseling from University of Phoenix. He is currently working on his doctorate degree from Walden University.

Joe Warren – Transportation Supervisor

With the new vacancy left by Lynn Mecham in the transportation department, the Nebo School Board appointed Joe Warren as the Transportation Supervisor.

Joe graduated from Payson High School and has worked for Nebo School district for 29 years. Some of Joe’s job experiences include: maintenance, electrician, and order clerk; as well as warehouse deliverer, refrigeration, purchasing foreman, and manager.

A colleague stated, “Joe is pleasant to be around and is willing to help. He takes charge of his responsibilities without reservations.”

Cathi Jarvis Selected 2011 National Award of Merit

Cathi Jarvis, Springville High’s Athletic Director, received the National Award of Merit 2011 by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) this spring. There is only one award per state.  Cathi was selected out of all the other athletic directors in Utah. The awardee is selected on meritorious service, leadership, and special contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local and state level.

Nebo's Special Education Students and Maple Mountain High Team Up

On April 27, 2011, Maple Mountain High School and Nebo Districts Special Education held the first annual Nebo Superstars Track and Field Day for students in our special needs units around the district. This event provided an opportunity for special needs students to participate in athletic events and to be honored for their abilities and effort. Athletes from Maple Mountain served as buddies and mentors during the events which included 50, 100, 200 and 400 meter races, a 400 meter wheelchair race, long jump, high jump and softball throw.

Utah Highway Patrol Honors Nebo School District Transportation Technicians

Utah Highway Patrol Officers Kevin Elmer and Bryce Ivie presented the safety Gold Award to Nebo’s transportation technicians at the Nebo School Board of Education meeting on May 11.

Officer Elmer said, “This is a great opportunity to acknowledge excellence to a group that maintains and keeps the buses safe in Nebo. We inspect every bus in Utah and Wasatch Counties as well as some to the south of us. It is always a pleasure to inspect Nebo’s buses. Martin and his crew do an excellent job on a day-to-day basis.”

Nebo Junior High Art Show Featured at the Covey Center in Provo

Nebo Junior High Art Show is on display at the Covey Center in Provo until May 25. It features 60 pieces of artwork from each of Nebo’s Junior High Schools including Mt. Nebo, Payson, Diamond Fork, Spanish Fork, Mapleton, and Springville Junior High. There are 10 pieces from each school. Go and enjoy the talent from Nebo’s teenage students.

Nebo School District Holds “Monster Concert”

Nebo School District’s sixth-grade string students represented 14 elementary schools in Nebo District. 

This third annual event continues to gain momentum. The first year 89 students participated; however, this year 190 students performed.  The event was coordinated by district elementary music specialist, Jeri Crosby, and the district's nine, sixth-grade strings instructors. 

Also featured in the concert was Springville High’s Folk Ensemble, more commonly known as "Sam's Club"  directed by Sam Tsugawa.

Nebo School District’s Captains Academy

On April 21, 2011, Nebo School District held its third quarterly Captains Academy Spring Session on leadership and sportsmanship. The Captain’s Academy is held three times a year. This event was held in the boardroom at Nebo School District and included Captains from each spring sport: baseball, softball, boys’ and girls’ track and field, boys’ soccer, girls’ golf, and boys’ tennis. All Region VIII was invited and all of Nebo District High schools were represented including Springville High, Maple Mountain High, Spanish Fork High, Salem Hills High, and Payson High.
