Don't Miss the Nebo Youth Philharmonic Concert

The Nebo Youth Philharmonic will be presenting their Fall Concert on October 28, at 7:00 p.m. at Maple Mountain High School located 51 North 2550 East in Spanish Fork. The orchestra is comprised of outstanding music students from throughout Nebo District High Schools. This year's program will feature highlights from the Broadway musical Wicked, Michael Jackson's Thriller, the Corpse Bride, Band of Brothers and more. Admission is free to the public.

Dane Allred, Payson High School drama teacher, has been a detective, Buffalo Bill, a drunken abusive father, the target of an assassination, a mentally-ill man, a suicidal veteran, an ancient actor, the church-lady and a homicidal juvenile delinquent. This time Allred is playing a police officer trying to help find a lost child.

Joe Kelly Principal at Landmark High School Breaks Bricks

Tuesday, September 29, Landmark High School, in Spanish Fork Utah, held their annual

Mix-it-Up assembly. The assembly was meant for breaking down the bricks and getting rid of cliques in schools. During the assembly Principal Joe Kelly, showed the students an example on using your inner strength and your inner power to break the bricks. Joe is a 3rd degree black belt, he put down four bricks and told everyone how he has only broke three before, never four.

Hope Squad Activity

Hope Squad held a suicide awareness walk where families that had endured suicide, walked 2.2 miles at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center last Saturday, September 26, 2009. Doves were released as part of the program before the walk began. Nebo District had the following participate: Jonathan Lawrence, Callie Johnson, Bailie Baxter, Hope Pemberton, Courtney Droz.

Utah Lights On! Afterschool Celebration

On October 22, the Utah Afterschool Network (UAN) and Nebo School District will be participating in the first annual statewide Lights On! Afterschool! Celebration in keeping the lights on and doors open during non-school hours. Nebo will be one of more than 7,500 sites across the nation sending the message that Afterschool programs is key to our youth's success. Currently, there are five schools with 4-H after school programs in Nebo District.

Past Shadow Mountain Directors Honored at School Board Meeting

Past and present directors of Shadow Mountain Camp, still employed in the Nebo School District, were honored recently at a meeting of the School Board. Shadow Mountain Camp is for boys and girls who have just completed the fifth grade. The camp provides educational and recreational experiences for the students in a beautiful mountain setting up the left fork of Hobble Creek Canyon. The camp was begun in the early 1970’s on donated land. The first campers slept in pup and spring bar tents on the mountain meadow. Later, under the direction of the district, the Army Corp.
