Brenda Burr was appointed by the Nebo Board of Education as the principal of Sage Creek Elementary. She is currently the assistant principal at Salem Hills High, and previously taught English for 14 years, including nine years at Springville High School where she also served as cheer coach and student council advisor.  Mrs. Burr taught in four different states, Nevada, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Utah. She graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in English Education, from Brigham Young University with a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, and is currently a doctoral student at BYU. She also teaches at Brigham Young University as an adjunct faculty member.

Bart Peery, principal of Salem Hills High, said, “Brenda Burr is an amazing, innovative leader. Salem Hills High School is an example of her beliefs. She has worked hard to create an atmosphere where all are accepted and encouraged to be their best.  From the school song to the Make A Wish extravaganza, Brenda has helped create a culture that invites all to help each other become better students and citizens. She will be a great principal!”

Mrs. Burr believes in serving the community. She serves as an ambassador for the Make-a-Wish foundation. She said, “I will be forever grateful to the students of Salem Hills High School for joining me in my passion to help families with critically ill children. We lived our school motto of Spirit, Heart, Honor, and Success by serving together to not only grant a wish but to be changed ourselves by the power of a wish.”

When addressing the Nebo School Board of Education, Mrs. Burr stated, “I am excited to become part of Sage Creek Elementary.  I know firsthand of the dedicated faculty and reputation of excellence at Sage Creek. Being part of the partnership of students, parents, faculty, staff, administration, and a whole community that opened Salem Hills High School will be an experience that I will always treasure. Together, we made history, created tradition, and began a legacy.  I am grateful for my administrative mentors: Ann Anderson who taught me how to make visions reality, Troy Bohling who served as my patient and caring trainer, and Bart Peery who taught me that big hearts can love one school and make room for another because in the end our mission is to make a difference in the lives of students every day.  I hope to continue to do that now at Sage Creek Elementary.” Mrs. Burr’s personal motto has become this simple statement by Abigail Adams, “Be good and do good.”

Brenda loves reading, walking, dancing, and watching old movies. She is married to Dr. Kevin Burr, and they reside in Springville. Their four children are all college graduates from NYU, BYU, OU, and OSU; and they have four beautiful grandchildren.
