Mr. Gillespie, art teacher at Maple Mountain High School, was asked to invite art students to publicly display their works of art and poetry on Saturday, September 10 at 6:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Billboard Poetry Project at Memorial Park on 800 East and Center in Provo, Utah.

Phillip Brown designed the billboards and promotional materials for the project. Three billboards, north of McDonalds on State Street in Springville, will display Derek Henderson’s poem through the month of September.

Ashley Mae Christensen, creator of The Billboard Poetry Project, said that the point of this project is to delight and share art and poetry that is created by the people immediately around us.  Billboards can be a representation of what our community is capable of. People will recognize the intelligence and beauty of the poetry and art created right in our midst.

The culminating event will be held at the Provo Memorial Park on September 10 where Mr. Gillespie’s portable art gallery will be on display with the students’ artwork. They will also curate a show that evening in the portable art gallery.

If interested, please contact Mr. Gillespie at jethro [dot] gillespie [at] nebo [dot] edu or call at 801-830-6574. For more information about Billboard Poetry Project go to   http://billboardpoetryproject.com/.
