October 2019 Nebo PEAK Award Winners

THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Reilly Ryan, Teacher, Diamond Fork Junior
Nominated by: Brenda Burr, Susan Anderson, Rhet Rowley, Scott Buck, Mike Sorensen, Krysten Barazoto, Todd Claybaugh

“Reilly is a quiet strength at Diamond Fork. He arranges Sundance trips for his film and literature classes every year and faithfully works with students to create an amazing yearbook. He is loved by all of his students, including some of our students who often struggle. During his time with a student teacher, he regularly volunteers to cover other teachers' classes. Mr. Ryan has served as English Department Head for several years, faithfully welcoming and helping to train our BYU interns every year. Reilly is always willing to step in wherever needed, and he does all of this quietly, without fanfare.”

Von Dansie, Custodian, Payson High
Nominated by: Mike Adams, RaShel Shepherd, Mary Ford, Jennie Bardsley, Diana Steele, Kevin Mecham, Kelli Topham, Robert Taylor, David Rockwood

“Von Dansie is an outstanding custodian. One thing that causes Von to stand out from other custodians is his positive, happy, friendly personality. Von builds positive relationships with teachers, students, sweepers, and community members. He takes pride in PHS, and our school looks amazing. The floors are shiny, windows gleaming, and everything looks organized and clean. Von takes pride in the accomplishments of our students. He knows their names, encourages them, and helps them celebrate their successes. Von knows their parents and their grandparents and helps them feel connected and an integral part of PHS. Von goes above and beyond to help meet our students’ and teachers’ needs. He helps make our older classrooms as functional and well equipped as possible. After waiting for the bleacher contractor to correct a mistake, Von took it upon himself to adjust the rails and fix the bleachers himself. If he sees a job needs to be done, he does it. Von’s custodians and sweepers love being on his team. He shows appreciation and helps them feel important. Von is one of a kind and we are so grateful to have him at PHS.”

Janell Haskell, Secretary, East Meadows Elementary
Nominated by: Mike Duncan & Katherine Beck

“Janell does it all!! She is the definition of efficient! Janell is one of the hardest workers I have ever been around. She is reliable and creative. If you ask her for help, she will always find a way to get the job done. She is the backbone of East Meadows Elementary. Parents, teachers, students, and administrators all turn to her for answers and for help! She has made my transition to East Meadows SO much easier.”

Deon Bradford, Teacher, Mt. Loafer Elementary
Nominated by: Sarah Lemmons

“Deon bends over backward to serve her students and support the regular education teachers. She helps teachers identify appropriate interventions and accommodations to use in the classroom, provides resources to educate teachers and parents to better facilitate the students' needs, and makes herself easily accessible to those who need her. Deon is able to connect with her students and help them feel loved and supported while working toward their academic and social goals.”

Susan Hunter, Secretary, Santaquin Elementary
Nominated by: Hannah Camit

“Susan is a positive role model. She makes all teachers, staff, and parents that she works with feel appreciated and important. Susan keeps the school running and makes each child feel important. She is welcoming and positive to everyone in the community that visits the school.”

Courtney Corbin, Teacher, Taylor Elementary
Nominated by: Billi Robbins & Clint Cornwall

“Courtney Corbin is a master teacher. She is always going above and beyond for Taylor Elementary. She is always seeking ways to enhance her pedagogy. This year she ASKED to have the district instructional coaches come in during the Coaching Cycle and give her pointers even though the instructional coaches learned just as much from her teaching as she did from their teaching. WOW! She is the definition of a lifelong learner.”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, www.nebo.edu/PEAK wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools. The name and contact information of the nominator must be included.
