Nebo Hosts Native American Winter Festival

Nebo School District Title VI Indian Education will be hosting its annual Native American Winter Festival at Larsen Elementary on February 28, 2019. 

James Singer is the keynote speaker and is a Diversity Fellow in Sociology and Ethnic Studies at Salt Lake Community College. He is also an adjunct professor in the Master of Arts of Community Leadership program at Westminster College where he teaches social change theory. Mr. Singer has been nominated and received many awards for teaching. 

Cultural Envoy is also coming and it Utah Valley University’s leadership program, which validates students' cultures and supports their pathway to completion. Cultural Envoy student panel will provide answers to most frequently asked questions and concerns young people may face when entering college; they will also be showcasing Native American songs and dance. 

Nebo Title VI staff and parent committee will be making and selling hot Navajo Taco dinners to raise money for graduating seniors. The dinners cost $7.00 per plate or $30 per family for 5 dinners, so come hungry! 

Nebo Title VI Indian Education is a resource for American Indian students, their families, teachers and schools to access Indian perspectives and knowledge about current curriculum. This Indian Education event supplements the fourth and fifth grade elementary presentation Title VI program conducts throughout Nebo District Schools.

PROGRAM AGENDA: 
Dinner will be served from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. 
UVU Student Panel from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. 
James Singer keynote talk 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. 
Dance by UVU Cultural Envoy 7:30 – 8:00 p.m.
