Florence, SC – ESAB Welding & Cutting Products announced that Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork, Utah, and Pickens Technical College in Aurora, Col., are the grand prize winners of ESAB’s inaugural Weld It Forward student contest. Each school will receive a $20,000 equipment and filler metal package. Every student member of the winning team will receive a $250 cash prize and a SENTINEL™ A50 auto-darkening helmet, while student members on teams from the four semi-finalist schools will receive a SENTINEL helmet.

Students from Maple Mountain High School fabricated three tables that were donated to families in Mexico by team members on a humanitarian trip in December. Students from Pickens Technical College fabricated a wheelchair ramp for fellow welding student Noah Williams, who was paralyzed in a car accident last year but is back in the shop and literally pushing himself to pursue a welding-related career (learn more about these student contest entries).

“ESAB congratulates the winning schools and salutes all the contest entrants for their skills, teamwork and supporting the Weld It Forward spirit. You admirably demonstrate how the welding community helps serve our greater communities,” says Shyam Kambeyanda, President, ESAB.

Maple Mountain High School Welding Teacher Jared Massic says that, “This win is a once in a career win for our program. We are so excited to be a part of it. It will help us continue to press forward in teaching future welders on some of the best equipment.”

“Pickens Technical College is very grateful to ESAB for providing this amazing opportunity to make a difference through the Weld It Forward Student Contest,” says Jeff Oliver, Welding Instructor, Pickens Technical College. “We are so excited that the welding community recognized our efforts to improve the life of a fellow Pickens student. It was a proud day for our school to complete and install the wheelchair ramp in Noah’s home. Thanks to the Weld It Forward contest, we will continue to provide cutting-edge equipment for our Pickens Tech students and inspire future welders to help others in our community.”
