June 2016 Nebo PEAK Award Winners:

THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Randel Talbot, Custodian, Park Elementary
Nominated by: Ryan Kay
“Randel moved to Park Elementary the day before school let out. He stepped into the building and has not looked up since. Mr. Talbot is a work horse. When it was time for registration, our school sparkled! It is awesome to watch him in the lunch room interact with kids. He talks about hunting, opens ketchup packets, pats students on the back, and dries their tears as he mops up their spilled milk. Mr. Talbot is a great part of our school culture. We appreciate everything he does for students and teachers of Park Elementary.”

Kara Poulsen, Drama Teacher, Diamond Fork Junior
Nominated by: Kathleen & Hannah Moore
“Kara is an amazing teacher who really cares about students. She enjoys her job. For the past 20 years, Kara has taken the Shakespeare Team to competition in Cedar City during October. As a parent chaperone, it was amazing to see her work so well with her students. Mrs. Poulsen and her students seem to have a special bond. It does not only exist with just the Shakespeare Team. The bond is with her drama club, students in class, during E-time, and with the students in the halls. Kara is truly remarkable.”

Dallas Pruitt, Special Education Teacher, Salem Hills High
Nominated by: Wade Tischner
“I see Dallas work with a very specific group of Special Education students with unique challenges. He is a master at helping students and parents move forward in their goals. Dallas has literally changed students’ lives because of his ability to help them work through their disabilities. He is always willing to try and be creative with difficult assignments.  Dallas knows how to connect, inspire, and educate his students.”

Gloria Nance, Secondary Literacy & Mentor Specialist, District Wide
Nominated by: Suzanne Kimball & Kami Christensen
“Gloria is the premiere example of a true educator. She is continuously teaching students, teachers, and administrators; and we are all blessed for it.  Not only does Gloria give 100% in every challenge she takes on, she does it with a genuine care for others.  Gloria has done it all--elementary and secondary teaching, new teacher induction,  overseeing mentoring, training administrators on evaluation, and the list goes on.  There will truly be a void in our lives at Nebo School District as a result of her retirement; however, the memories of her professionalism and love for others will continue to educate and influence all of us.

“One of the first introductions to Nebo School District that all new teachers receive is the work that Gloria Nance and Kami Christensen put into training mentors to ensure everyone can be successful in this profession.  Gloria's vision for how important this work is manifested in her ongoing reflection for improvement of herself and the long hours of working with individuals to improve their craft.  This is what Nebo is about--the personal attention needed to the individual to learn and grow.”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, www.nebo.edu/PEAK wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools. The name and contact information of the nominator must be included.
