The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities serviced by Nebo School District. Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students. Many of the donations received are for selected projects, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need. Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools. These grants are funded through the fund-raising efforts of the Nebo Education Foundation board. One fund-raising effort is the annual “Green Fever” golf tournament that helps fund these various grants throughout the year. The “Green Fever” tournament will be Thursday, May 19, 2016. Also, the foundation accepts donations from individuals and businesses to support projects.

Riverview – RyLee Reid
RyLee Reid, second-grade teacher said, “We are so excited to receive this grant! We will be purchasing informational leveled books on animals of different habitats. Students will have the opportunity to research animals as we integrate science, writing, geography and reading into one fun project amazing project. Thank You!”
Canyon – Danika Nuttall
“I am so excited and grateful for the Nebo Education Foundation and their decision to award me this grant to purchase a year subscription to Storyworks Jr. Magazines. This grant will make a HUGE difference in the writing and reading process that we are required to teach throughout the year. I will be using the articles inside the magazines to build essential analytical reading, writing, and learning skills that are crucial for test readiness. Storyworks Jr. Magazine will enhance my writing and reading instruction throughout the year thus, giving my students the opportunity to practice opinion and information writing with 3rd grade appropriate text. Again, I am so grateful for amazing programs like the Nebo Education Foundation that make my job a little easier by supporting local teachers and students! I can’t wait to purchase the magazines and utilize them to ensure my students learning as they continue on their educational journey!” exclaimed Danika Nuttall, third-grade teacher.
Sierra Bonita – Dana Beckert
Dana Beckert, facilitator at Sierra Bonita said, “With the grant money awarded to our school, we will be purchasing 38 copies of the book, The Reading Strategies Book by Jennifer Serravallo. These books will be a great resource to our teachers by providing 300 different strategies to help students develop 13 crucial reading skills. We will cover each of the 13 crucial reading goals during staff development meetings throughout the year and provide opportunities for teachers to share experiences as they implement the step-by-step strategies provided in the book. Each reading goal and strategy is cross-linked to skills, genres, and Fountas & Pinnell reading levels to give each teacher access to effective teaching methods and ideas. We are excited to study this book as a staff and implement newly gained teaching skills to crease student learning. Thank you so much!”
Payson Junior – Stephanie Anderson
“Dissecting microscopes can be used for biology dissections, and inspections of animal specimens, dirt, rocks, and mineral samples. The microscopes are digital which will allow students to view live images on the LCD touch screen. This will be helpful in the classroom so more than one student can gather around the LCD screen to view, capture images, or video record their specimen. The Payson Junior Science Department is very thankful and grateful for the grant. We are excited to bring new technology into our classrooms that will improve our lesson plans, and excite students about science, exploring, and learning,” stated Stephanie Anderson, science teacher at Payson Junior High.
Mapleton – Lisa Christensen
Lisa Christensen, fourth-grade teacher at Mapleton Elementary said, “I am thrilled to receive the grant of $391 for books. We will be purchasing Level N, O, P, and Q books for our leveled library. We will be enthusiastically using these new titles to work with students in Guided Reading Groups. It will allow me, as well as other teachers, access to a variety of genres and more availability to good book titles. This will enhance our ability to work with our students in small group reading instruction.”
Principal Julie Peery said, “We are so excited about the grant for more leveled library books! We will be adding to our leveled library in the upper grades section for levels O-S--areas where we had fewer books for teachers to use with their students. Teachers will be using the books as they teach guided reading and we know that these titles will be interesting to students as well. Not only will these books be used to help student learn how to read, but also to inspire them to love reading as well.”
Brookside – Tami Evans
“Our class is so excited to receive this grant for more pairs of funny ears! My students love using our funny ears (ear cancelling earmuffs) as tools during independent work when they are struggling to pay attention. We have a couple of pairs we have been using, but I never have enough earmuffs to go around! Students especially love using them during writing activities. One student told me, ‘When I am working on writing and there are noises going on, my ideas leave my brain through my ears before I can get them on paper; but when I have them on, it’s like it holds all my ideas in my own head.’ Just a few of the benefits we have seen from having funny ears available include better reading comprehension, higher math concept retention, and more fluent writing. Thank you for helping our kids to be more successful by having great tools to help our concentration!” stated, Tami Evans, fourth-grade teacher at Brookside Elementary.
Larsen – Heide Taylor
"Thank you for granting my request to purchase books for our school leveled library. Our students love to read and perform plays and they will be thrilled to read new books that have been added to our small Theatre genre. The Rigby books are great because the first half of the book is the story and the second half is the play divided into color coded parts which makes it easier for the students to perform the play. I appreciate having the Nebo Foundation as a resource to help acquire new materials for my classroom and school," stated Heide Taylor.
