THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, www.nebo.edu/PEAK wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools. The name and contact information of the nominator must be included.

October 2015 PEAK Award Winners:

Rich Lowe, Custodian, Taylor Elementary
Nominated by: Frank Daybell
“Rich keeps our school maintained. He has a clip board in the faculty room that anyone with a need can write down, and he checks it several times throughout the day. Rich is easy to approach and drops anything he is doing to help out. He helps with outside duty, mentoring students, or running lunch when needed. Rich is a great example of working an honest day for an honest day’s pay. Rich makes it a point to know each individual student by name and their interests. He makes each student feel like they are his favorite. He looks out for students who look like they may need a kind word. Whenever we get a new student in our school, I make it a point to introduce them to Rich because I know that he will put a smile on their face and make them feel at ease. Rich lives in our community and is a constantly looking for families that may have needs. Rich has done many things anonymously to ease their burdens and lift their spirits. He can talk to anyone and make them feel like they are the most important person. There is no one more loved at Taylor than Rich.”

Lindi Lundell, Teacher, Foothills Elementary
Nominated by: Andria Lewis
“Mrs. Lundell always goes above and beyond for her students, but recently she had a very difficult student that has never been successful at his previous schools. The student had never bonded with previous teachers or staff at his schools. Mrs. Lundell showed so much love and patience for this child, even as he hit, kicked, and screamed at her. She never lost her cool and never even talked ill of the child when he wasn't around. Her intention was to learn as much as possible about him and to try everything. She would come in on her lunch when other staff were with him, just to make sure he was doing okay. She has been very accommodating and has come up with numerous ways to help him succeed. One example was when she found out he didn't like writing because of the sound of the lead against the paper. She immediately gave him a pen. She allowed him to do his spelling words with bendy sticks that he likes. The student now loves Mrs. Lundell very much and is very attached to her. She shows the perfect balance of love and discipline for this student and all her students.”

Shane Fawson, Medical Fragile Unit, Sierra Bonita
Nominated by: Mike Larsen, Andy Wiley, Peggy Freek, Lindsey Pierce, Janna Slye
“The sun shines just a little brighter at Sierra Bonita because of Shane Fawson and the positive energy and kindness he radiates. Shane was hired to work in Nebo after he graduated from Oakridge years ago. As a technician in Miss Freek’s medically fragile unit, Shane works hard and with compassion to challenge students to meet their physical goals. He is continually wiping down the classroom to keep it a healthy environment for our special needs students. He loves each student and knows them personally. He especially loves to make them laugh. Shane is always going the extra mile. He volunteers at lunch time by cleaning tables, sweeping the floor, emptying garbage cans, and talking to students. He notices what needs to be done and just does it! Shane is an icon at Sierra Bonita. Everyone loves him, especially the students who are always vying for his attention and famous ‘high fives’. Shane is a hard worker, responsible, and dependable; but most importantly, Shane is everyone’s friend and one of Sierra Bonita’s most valuable staff members.”

Staci Call, PE Technician, Canyon Elementary
Nominated by: Darlynn Menlove
“Staci is the most amazing PE technician that I know! She goes the extra mile to get to know all the students in the school since she has each class for 40 minutes without many breaks! Staci even came to my class at recess to watch the students and memorize their names. My students ask every day when they can go to P.E. since they love it so much! Staci offered to come a half hour earlier in the day, on her own time, and take my class so that they wouldn't miss PE. I was so impressed with her willingness to do that! When I told her not to worry about it ( since she wasn't getting paid for that time) she insisted that she loved the children and wanted to make the time. Staci deserves much more than a thank you for this kind of dedication!”

Marianne Stevens, Technician, Mapleton Junior
Nominated by: Martin Powell

“Mrs. Stevens assists students in CTE during FLEX time for the last couple of years. She is has been assigned for one period once a week in a CTE class to support the curriculum and facility needs of the teacher and students. Her desire to be constantly engaged in service is so exceptional. Immediately upon her arrival, Mrs. Stevens is engaged in the needs of students and the teacher. She is resourceful in finding solutions to the processes of the facility and classroom. ‘What can I do next?’ is an important sentence in her vocabulary. She brings a wonderful aura of ‘can do’ to the classroom. Mrs. Stevens is a work model for students and teachers to follow. She is ‘A Keeper’.”

Brenda Mikesell, Skill Building, Barnett Elementary
Nominated by: Gwen Spencer & Jack White
“Brenda is always so willing to give an extra hand with students in our school who may be struggling with disruptive behavior. Students are always given an extra bit of encouragement and love when they are with Brenda. Students hear, ‘I know you can do it.’ Students can go to her room and feel unafraid and comfortable.”
