Barnett Elementary presented various learning programs for the Nebo School Board of Education on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Principal Angela Stoddard thanked the Board for this opportunity and introduced two sixth-grade teachers, Lisa Peterson and Lindsey Laudato, as well as School Community Council Co-Chair, Norma Barnum. Mrs. Barnum addressed the Board and mentioned that the focus of the committee has been to provide additional reading technicians and current technology.

Many sixth-grade students spoke about their favorite subjects which included ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. The students learned about the ancient Greek Olympics, chariot races, and even had a Renaissance Feast. They also learned how to be “ladies” and “gentlemen” and learned a traditional dance from the middle ages.

Barnett Elementary is also grateful to Fishbowl Inventory company that provided 100 volunteers that spent two days of service. The service included ripping off decrepit picnic table tops and providing new sanded and painted wood tops. The broken basketball nets were replaced with new ones. One of the biggest projects was reorganizing the leveled library at the school. Randy Webster at Southgate Hardware donated the paint and supplies.

The students and faculty at Barnett really appreciate all the help. In the near future, Vivint & United Way plan to volunteer at Barnett Elementary.
